Bonnet repairs

The inside of the bonnet had a fair bit of surface rust and a couple of holes on the front so I removed the front and rear inner bracing and acid cleaned the bonnet skin inside and out and sandblasted the 2 bracing sections.
The bonnet has now been sent away to get louvred

Next the alternator
I ended up getting a new 140 amp alternator and wanted to do a low mount bracket with the Gilmer belt set up.

I couldn’t but one that was just going to be a bolt on so I had to make it myself. The low mount didn’t give me much room to play with either









Was sweeting bullets with the length of the belt, but it ended up fitting perfectly with plenty of adjustment

I finally got the tyres fitted to the rims so I could cut the diff to length and get that area all finished off.

I ended up using 265/50/15 on the back and 185/65/15 on the front.
The rear tyres are a nice snug fit.













The front tyres I’m hoping will be ok for clearance to the guards

Wow. A lot of work. I’m glad I’m only 6ft nothing. Got my seat back against the rear wall in my ute and there are two holes left on the runners.

Yesterday I got a bit more done on the LH rear wheel arch up to where I decided to do a bit of fuel filler surgery while that area was still accessible.

Been struggling with the fuel filler option in my head for a while and bought a flush mount filler door that I was going to put in place of the original recessed one.










This change came about as I was going to have to change the routing of the filler tube, due to the inlet on the Mustang tank being in the middle at the back





So ended up not using the new filler door at all and cut out the original recessed one and filled it in all together





The old one cut out, and new piece marked out ready to trim and fit











Nothing like welding on a big flat area and then spending the next couple of hours slapping it up to get the wobbles out of it

Finally finished off my fuel filler relocation. Decided to put it in the back.

Just a bit of press work and shaping to start with








Then to fit it









A bit of messing around remaking the new filler tube into the top of the tank





Now for the cover up







And pretty happy with how it all turned out

Rear door made for access to the battery, electric power steering, electric air con compressor and air con evaporator. The door has gas rams to keep it open and closed. Works great.

















Now just have to sheet it all off .

She’s finally back on the rotisserie with just a few welds to finish off and then it’s off to the sand blasters

I finished of the lid





I used the same profile in the lid as the inside tailgate
