That looks amazing. With the unit in place it will look like it was made to go there.
I would expect that bronzing should work as well.
I had an overrider bronzed where it had a small dent right in front of the mounting bolt. Chrome went straight over the top.

The retired panel beater who worked on my FC described the same method for repairs to damaged chrome bumpers 'back in the day'. Applied using the oxy, it files back easily being softer than the parent metal. Nice job JB, these finishing touches are worth that extra time & effort. |

So it was center console time. I started with the storage and arm rest, slowly working forward. The upholsterer suggested that it be made in 2 pieces to get in and out easy. The first half I had an idea of what it would look like but the second half, or front half I really had no idea how it would finish until I did some. Cup holders will go in the middle. I even managed to keep the cowl vent handle in the same spot so pretty happy all up.       |

Am going to use thin steel to fill in the frame, and the it will all be covered in leather.
2 air vents to sit underneath the speaker grill, and the drink holders will sit front to back in the centre.
Trying to get my side of things done by the end of the year so that the car can be at the upholsterers at the start of the new year. Will see how that goes.

Am going to use thin steel to fill in the frame, and the it will all be covered in leather. JB, have you considered covering it in t-shirt material and then fibreglass resin, maybe adding some sheeting for strength? It might save some weight and possibly easier/smoother than steel. |

IMHO any square/rectangular flat opening will be good, make the opening then make a flange to fit it. Attach via internal clips or Christmas tree clips. The trimmer would just need the flange and the height of the boot. |

I thought we had already talked about the poly resin impreganted cloth JB?.. it's certainly the best way to make complex shapes.. typically for speaker build outs and consoles etc, however your frame is well built and would be easy to sheet up to the frame.
If you do go with poly, just stretch the material over your frame and stick it down to the steel frame or wrap it around and cable tie it. Paint on the resin and I normally allow it to set at this point to make a shell.
Lay up some light weight mat over the top, you only need 2 or 3 layers..then smooth up with body filler…
it can end up quite heavy so avoid trying to apply the cloth and matting in one go as it will sag , making your filler job bigger, and the end product even heavier.
