Have you got all the bits to make it?
i getalloy radiator snouts from the local bloke and just weld them in. I did a XT falcon washer bottle and radiator overflow last month came up awesome 2mm alloy mirror finish.
He sold the car a week later wish i had not helped him now.

Hey Pete, Haven't got any of the bits to do it or the Tig welder either. Was going to take the cardboard box to a fabricator that I know here and get a quote to do it... Could be expensive but I don't really have much of a choice. Only so much I can do with an angle grinder and a mig I guess. Apparently this guy does stuff in stainless also, so will have to find out probably in a couple of weeks. Cheers JB

Jase. Hows life in wet Melbourne treating you. Been to many Hawks games since making the move?
Enough small chat.
When you made the adjustable trailing arms, where did you source the bushes and red housings from. I read the remark from Brett_F regarding engineers and preferences to self made options so will look into that before committing. Looks like your build is going great guns. Mine on the other hand is going nowhere at the moment. I thought moving back to SA where family was would allow me more time to work on the car but with the bride working most nights and weekends (Chefing) Im no closer to commiting time than when I was in Cairns. Oh how I appreicate how the HR came together before kids came on the scene. Anyways would not be without them. Stay safe and chat soon. All the best

Hey Jase,
Been away to Singapore with work. Have seen a couple of Hawks games and yes its gets cold and wet down here... hate the cold!!!
The upper and lower trailing arms were from a VS commodore, and after working out that the upper ones weren't long enough I made the inner part on a lathe with High Tensile steel thread on the inner to make it adjustable. I cut the original upper trailing arms in half and then welded in all of the pieces together. This gave me the original bushes which can now be replaced easily if needed. Hope this answers your question. It was a long 12 months when I couldn't work on the ute... So happy to be back at it again, so I know what you are going through.
Cheers JB

Pete,
I have sent the box away to you today. You should have it in the next 3 days or so. I think the bolts will need to be a little larger than I described in the note... Let me know what you think.
Question for anyone...
I need to mount the clutch master cylinder inside the firewall, and the first attempt that i had was very crude to say the least. Is there anyone that specialises in this sort of application that I can look at and get a set up working behind the instrument cluster?
Cheers JB

JB take a look under the dash of a 1980 something BMW at the wreckers when these cars were made in the factory from left to right hand drive they had cross over mechanical linkages to operate the brakes they would be easy to adapt to your pedal to give you a side ways mount for a under dash master cylinder they contain hyme joints and clevis yolks and direction change linkages all the things you need .....FC427...... [/img] Not the best picture but .....This is my set up I made for the Rod you could also do some thing similar hope it helps

Have you thought of mounting them under the car and have the pedal arms going through the floor?

Thanks Scotty,
Have thought of it but only briefly as I had a little trouble with water into the cab of the van that I couldn't find, and it really pissed me off. So this time I definitely want it water proof and should be able to sort the problem out behind the dash.
Cheers JB

Haven't had a chance to get to BMW for the clutch bits but it's high on the list!! Hard to get motivated in the cold but decided that I needed a stool for the shed to sit on and would help with the handbrake stuff I want to do next. Which leads to a question for the pro's Handbrake cable and the best way to run one. The original handbrake mount fits fine, and I have to thread the cable through the upper and lower trailing arms as shown. What is the tightest bend in the cable that can be made with it still being effective? I am looking at making a mount on the lower trailing arm to locate this end and then either having a floating mount maybe on the body for the support of the rest of the cable. You can see the floating plastic mount in the second photo. Maybe when I get the cable shortened then it wont need mounting on the body, just have the forward and rear mount to make it work. Cheers JB

Gidday Jase, I used a standard VS Commodore hand brake cable matched up to a Hyundai Excel hand brake mechanism, works well. Have a look at my build under My New Project. That,s a mighty fine birds nest of wiring under your ute, are you sure ther's not a couple of plovers under there ,I hear they are nesting this time of the year! Cheers , Jack

I am glad to say that the birds nest is now safely tucked away... In an Esky at the moment as I had no other space to put the left over cables.
I have both ends of the brake cable sorted, original VT to VS diff end, but I only have a small connection between the 2 for the cable, so was after the best way to do it without pinching the cable now or further down the track.
At the moment I am thinking about a bracket on the lower trailing arm for the spring end and then having a look at if the cable needs supporting in the middle somewhere.
Cheers JB
