Al, my car has the boot lining. I'll try and get a photo of it for you.

(I didn't realise it was deleted pre-FC, thanks for that info, Ken. I knew Faecal didn't have them, but just assumed they were lost along the way.)

cheers

42  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Weight of FE FC Body Shell on: November 02, 2022, 08:22:59 PM
You are so lucky I have a sedan in pieces.

Front guard, complete with headlight, surround and indicator housing: 12 kg.
Front subframe: 34 kg.  Clay's right on the money.

And no, I'm not going to put the body shell on the scales, but somewhere between 250 and 300 kg would not be wide of the mark.

Rob

The amount of metal that was missing from that body shell of yours, I reckon it would have weighed 150 kg tops! Grin Grin Grin

They were standard equipment on FE Special Sedans and Special Station Sedans.

There were a number of items like this that were deleted from the FC, such as the boot liner, the bonnet badge, the long name strips on the boot etc, all replaced with cheaper alternatives. Similarly the interior of an FC is less ornate. This was to keep the retail price of the FC the same as the FE it replaced.

Once upon a time, if you put discs, or an auto, or a red motor, you were forced to put your car on full rego, which makes having a hobby/occasional use non-original car an expensive proposition. Fortunately in the last few years NSW have introduced the Classic Vehicle Scheme, which means that - for the price of wearing the sort of number plates you see on graders and street sweepers - you can use your modified car 60 times a year for a fraction of what full rego costs. It's about $100/yr, no green slip required, but you do need to remain a financial member of your club, and they may have rules about participation.

All that said, modifying a car almost certainly requires obtaining an engineer's certificate, which in turn means meeting any requirements that engineer may have, as well as the base regulations set out on the RMS website, sometimes known as "VSI06 Light Vehicle Modifications". That includes things like heater/demister, seatbelts, collapsible steering column, and more. Expenses can add up quickly.

So I would agree with some of the other correspondents here - unless you are lucky enough to find a modified, currently registered (in NSW) car that is close enough to what you want - you might be better off sticking with something original. Steering that wanders, or brakes that don't stop you properly are both problems that can be fixed without spending a fortune.

cheers

45  General / FE-FC Holden Nationals / 19th FE-FC Holden Nationals, Broken Hill, Easter 2023 on: June 04, 2022, 04:29:05 PM
Hi everyone,

Planning is well underway to get the Nationals back up and running, I think we can all agree it has been way too long between events.

To that end, we would like to invite prospective attendees to assist us in our planning, to ensure we can get quotes from venues, caterers and the like that will accurately reflect the size of the event.

If you intend to be part of Broken Hill 2023, please visit https://fefcholden.club/nats2023/Register and provide your info. This will also ensure you are on the mailing list for any announcements about the event.

Thanks for your time, and we look forward to seeing you in the outback next Easter.

We are planning to hold the event in Broken Hill in 2023, as announced late last year. We cannot know the future, but we do expect a post-Covid normal will have well and truly settled by then.

Okay, that's probably long enough to allow for postage, and I've seen a few images posted on Facebook already anyhow.

Here is the commemorative Grille Badge:

And here it is next to Christmas Card:

Well, I heard that a member up on the far north coast received his yesterday, so probably not quite that long.  Grin

Hi all, I'll post a photo once Australia Post has had sufficient time to get them out to all our club members.

Don't want to spoil the surprise for those yet to receive it.
51  General / General Board / Re: Commemorative Badge on: November 15, 2021, 07:54:34 PM
The design is bigger than the old grille badge, which didn't quite fit comfortably in an FC grille, but worked well with the thinner gaps of an FE grille. This one is big enough that it should be able to be affixed to either model with ease.

I'd like to thank Alex for his awesome artwork on the card that accompanies the badge. We're very lucky to have such a talented artist to call on for this kind of thing.

cheers

Thanks everyone for the additional info. I was right about it being the car from Grey Pride, but that's about it  Roll Eyes
53  General / General Board / Re: Going Country? on: November 03, 2021, 07:38:10 PM
I am 100% sure it's the same FC featured on the promo of Julia Zemiro's "Home Delivery"

Which makes me wonder if the ABC have acquired it along the way, or have an arrangement with its owner. If the latter, it's a very accommodating arrangement, because Justine Clark was driving it around the gravel roads of Silverton last night Grin

Anyway, I noticed last night it has an FB or EK bonnet mascot, which makes me suspect it might be a car we saw turn up at Grey Pride once. I have an idea the owner joined the NSW club, but only briefly. It didn't have the number plates then it has now, which are notably unusual in that they are original style plates, but don't start with a "B", so not original for an FC.

I have a photo of that car from Grey Pride somewhere...

cheers

55  General / General Board / Happy Belated Birthday to the Forum! 20 Years and still going strong on: October 04, 2021, 01:29:43 PM
This forum was launched on 31 August 2001.

Phil Gray (an FE owner and former member of the FE-FC Holden Car Club of NSW), had a bulletin board running on the web space his ISP provided that had a small amount of traffic. He and I agreed it should be migrated to the fefcholden.org.au domain, and converted the existing posts to YaBB, and subsequently moved from YaBB to SMF. I can't even remember what the platform was that Phil was using, but if you look at the oldest pages on the boards, you'll see these ancient threads, and yet still recognise some familiar names.

It has been - and continues to be - an amazing resource for FE-FC Enthusiasts everywhere.

After 20 years, at current count, we have:

27,679 Threads
177,144 Posts
3,290 Members

.. which by anyone's reckoning is a massive collection of knowledge, artefacts, histories of restos and rebuilds, events and much more.

Whilst social media has come along and taken over the role of many bulletin boards, they still have a useful place. You simply do not find the camaraderie, willingness to assist strangers, and making of long-term friends on Facebook like we have here. Maybe part of that is that the forum has grown through the clubs that fund it, but it is also much more a community, and those that have posted - in many cases thousands of times over the years - have given freely of their knowledge to assist their fellow enthusiast.

Long may it continue!
56  General / General Board / FE-FC Holden Car Club of NSW 40th Birthday on: October 04, 2021, 01:02:37 PM

30 September 2021 is our 40th Birthday.

The FE-FC Holden Car Club of NSW was formed on this day in 1981.

Thank you to members past and present for being part of our great organisation. We wouldn't be who we are without you.

Vern,

I believe the NSW Club still have couple of steel ones in the merch store. If it's not super-urgent, once things re-open we should be able to check and work something out to get it to you.
