Road going Waggott

At the recent Eastern Creek Classic, this beast of a 48-215 popped up with a road going Waggott grey under the hood. Awesome piece of engineering that has taken the last 5 years to sort out.

Sensational, that has got to be the best looking grey in a road going car I have seen.  Did he have any figures as to output and other engine mods?

In the third picture it looks like he has taken the accelerator cable off the old linkages instead of replacing the pedal.  This is what I hope to do to my EK.  You did not happen to get any more photos showing this did you?

Like Alex I spent ages crawling over the engine bay in this car. The engineering detail was incredible, including not only the head itself but little bits and pieces like the extension for the dizzy, and the cam/timing gear cover. Truly a work of automotive art, and a credit to the perserverence of its owner.

VERY cool car.

According to the write up either in the photo album or on the display board the motor / head actually belongs or belonged to a member of the Waggot family.

The car was scheduled to do a lap around 2 pm on the day but I think it's event was running late as it had not left it's garage at that time.

I would have loved to hear it run too but it was great to just see it.

Can't tell you if it is unnatural but I had to have a cold shower  I don't think there is room in there for a Norman and the Olbis  

I love that all the finishing has pretty much been done old school, cast alloy, copper and steel - no billet crap Would really like to see some more photo's of some of the detail if anyone has some.  The dizzy extension would make changing the points easier.  Did all 48-125 distributors have no vacume advance or has it been removed?  I wonder if it is electronic? Has a condenser, do electronic units still have a condenser?

No extra pics of the car, but I did remember to take a shot of the sign.  
The guy had a photo album showing the motor on a stand in what I think was the Waggott showroom. It was set up slightly different, with a Magneto and different triple carbs....I think they were Solex. Also showed every step of the build from bare block up....some nice work in the bottom end also. Also on display was a book showing all work done, including blueprints of custom made parts, dyno graphs etc. I recall seeing 1 graph that showed a top speed of 140mph.
It was an amazing buzz.
I to wanted to here the thing running, but it did not hit the track before I headed for home. The guy was a member of a FX FJ club, so I pray to see (and hear) this car in the future.
There was detail about what # the head was, but can't be sure. (#12 comes to mind, but it's no longer trustworthy)

Drool, dribble, foam..  What a very nice looking vehicle.

When I lived at Chullora, almost across the road fromthe old Waggot premises, I approached them about making another one or a batch of those heads - circa 1985.  I remember that they gave a price of $1,200 each and that they needed to do a run of five minimum to make it worthwhile.  I answered fine, when can I order them?  I received non-committal answers so I concluded that Waggots were not really interested.

They did confirm that they had all the drawings and some patterns.
