That is a magnificent piece of engineering, looks like it wasn't far from running. I'm guessing it would have had a very low profile cam cover. Woops nearly called it a rocker cover

It's still got rockers. This type of set-up is called cam-in-head, where the camshaft is in the head, but not over the valves. It eliminates pushrods, but still has rockers.
Technically it's not a true OHC, but is probably the next best thing.
The RB30-E Nissan 6-Cyl in the VL is the same set-up as is the Opel 1900 (LH/LX/UC).
