Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if the cyl head I have on my engine is the correct one, as when I bought the car it came with the engine in pieces and was told it was a 138 bought as a replacement when the original engine block cracked. The engine (minus the head and flywheel) I have since discovered is from an FX. The part number cast on the head is 7412811.

Thank you

The FE FC head should not have a water jacket hole at the front for the heater outlet. It should have an outlet at the back only for the temp sensor.

Thanks Ken,

Mine has a hole at the front and a hole at the the back with a plug fitted.

Cheers

From my understanding this would make it a later head from FB to EJ. I have 2 heads here with the single outlet and both these have 7412811 part number as well. There is a date code cast into the top of head near the part number - can you make this out?

Ken,

The number that is next to the part number is D 121. Also as I had to remove the cylinder head I was able to confirm that the engine is a 138 as it has p/n 7406476 pistons fitted. The engine block s/n is 116656 & p/n 7400479.

Cheers

Walks, I assume the engine number starts with a B. that is B116656, this indicates a FB/EK block.
The casting number indicates the head was made April 12, 1961.

Ken,

There is no prefix to the engine number. I can only assume that at some point it has been bored to take the larger pistons.

Cheers

If there is no prefix then it is a FX/FJ block.
