So after a very loooooooooooooooong time looking I finally found a really good roller for my project and it was only 15 minutes away from my place Roll Eyes

The good: It has a HR disc brake front end, 202 with M21 box and virtually no rust.

The bad: Interior needs a complete overhaul and its missing its carpet, previous owner lost the ignition key, chrome strip on front right guard missing and slight pitting on front/rear bars.

I had a clear direction that I wanted to go with the car but now I've found it I'm really stuck in two minds as to what I want to do now...

Anyway I'll make sure I keep the thread updated with progress pics and my decision which direction I want to go.

Cheers

Ben

Ben - stick with the plan - you have obviously spent a long time on it so don't change on a whim.

I really like the colour scheme although the badge on the grill looks like crap and is about to fall off! So when you pull the car apart can you send it to me?Huh Cheesy

Good score and I love it when they are "round the corner"

The original plan was to build a replica of my first FC but instead of the worked 202 use the hot 186 I already have.  As above this shell already has a HR front end, black 202 (suspected head gasket) with M21 box.

"MOST" of the hard work has been done so it just leaves the strip and tidy up and reassemble with my wheels, interior and brake mods.

BUT now I've found the shell and the condition its in I'm toying with the idea of a 1UZ/5 speed, tubbed, dropped and different wheels...

Car is home and have started stripping it ready to asses how good/bad it actually is.

The interior is a complete mess, the black 202 has a suspected blown head gasket so I will pull the head off to assess once its out and see if its worth rebuilding/repairing or sell.

I can see that the biggest obstacle is going to be the wiring, rubbers/seals and the interior but nothing I wont have a crack at.

I've decided to continue on with the original plan and keep it all Holden so:
dropping in my 186
swapping the 4 speed for a 5 speed
rebuild the HR front end & brake upgrade
exchange the rear end (haven't decided what as yet)
clean & simple interior based on how it rolled off the factory floor

I have a few odds and ends to acquire so I have a complete car to start with and I'm sure I will change my mind a thousand times whilst the build is happening but I have a picture in my head how I want the car to look once complete and hopefully can achieve that.

Will update with pics later on.

Waynos

a 1UZ is a 4L quad cam V8 that is commonly used in the Toyota Lexus/Soarer.  Cheap to buy but costly to mod compared to a LS with conversion, especially if you want manual.

Oh trust me I'm the last person that needs any convincing but the better half might have something to say about it given how full my place is at the moment with recent purchases.

In the past 12 months I've managed to bring home: brand new Mazda BT50, Hino FPR800 tipper, Holden Rodeo 4X4, the FC

my back up work vehicle Grin

Not mention already having an MX32 in the shed (current project) an EH sedan (partly built track car) a corolla 4x4 wagon (to take the dogs to the beach) the better half's 407 twin turbo wagon and my track bike let alone all the other crap/projects in the shed.

SOME HOW I've managed not become single or homeless in the process Huh

An Eaton would be great but I'll more than likely use a SC14 if I can source one in good condition as I can set that up ALOT cheaper.

Apologies if this has been covered already I did search and was unable to find anything.

Whilst working on the FC today and trying to plan out things in my head it suddenly hit me (I've only been staring at it for the past 3 days straight) that the handbrake has been modified and is now mounted on the floor between the seats.

Now this doesn't really concern me given that I plan on running front buckets anyway but it does take away some of the "originality" (I know that sounds silly given the car sits on wider rims, HR front & rear end, modified column and a 202) but it just doesn't feel right IMO.

Am I being silly and just run with it given all the hard work has been done or should I return it back to the way it was from factory???
