It's obviously a drift to insert a threaded component which is screwed on at one end and whacked at the other end to drive it home.  It was included with some other tools I bought several years ago.

Stamped   "Dufor 3"

So, what does it fit?

It looks like an end that is used in the building industry for threadrod, either to join sections or to do as you say use as a drift.

G'day Martin,

Looks to me like a Dufor stud extractor, size #3 in a series of about a dozen. I can't find my Dufor tools info, but pictured below is the same gear from Coxhead. Looks lilke your stud extractor collection is like mine... I have a lonely Coxhead #1  Grin.

Thanks, gents.

It's not hollow thoughout - so if I inderstand "threadrod" correctly, that is ruled out.

Harv could be right - althouigh I still think it's for whacking.  Here's another pic showing the "whacking" end.

I meant to add,  I don't have anything large enough to try it out on, but internal diameter is 0.786 inch =  roughly 3/4 or 13/16.  Depth of thread is 0.712 inch - nearly 3/4"

Its a tool for removing/fitting the upper/lower control arm pivot shaft that's screwed in the cross member.
I borrowed one from Shacks Holden in Fremantle when restoring 2BRITE.

Gents,

I could be way, way wrong (and often am  Embarrassed), but I understand the control arm shaft remover and replacer (3A4) looks like this:

(this is the Litchfield version, E1882). This allows you to screw the upper and lower control arm shafts in and out. It looks to have a thread of 3/4-10 UNC.

The tool Martin has is designed to screw onto something, then belt the snot out of it ( Grin), kinda like the wheel bolt peening drift (tool 3A7) or crankshaft balancer replacer (6A2). The thread dimensions are similar to the 3A4, but look closer to 7/8-9UNC.

Again, I could well be wrong.

So the ball's back up in the air again.  At least Litchfields stamped the GMH number on the applicable tools.

Anybody else got any ideas?
