I was told that i could use any sump up to hg Holden for the 186 to hr front end is this true Huh

No.  If you've got standard HR front end you need an EH sump and oil pickup (ie from 149 or 179).  The shape of later red sumps doesn't suit.  Your other option is to make it fit with oxy and welder  :-/

 :)Thanks Fella's, Much appreciated. Slim any idea when you will have one as it is the only thing stopping me from putting in the motor. The red motor original sump that was with the red motor was cut and shut and it looked like a dry sump setup, it was a abortion.

From memory you can also use an LC-LJ Torana sump, I put an XU-1 engine straight from a Torana into an EH about 15 years ago and I am positive we did not change the sump.

Hi Spider, looking at a LC/LJ torana sump I cannot see why one wouldnt fit it only has 2 steps compared to an EH sump which has 3, the torana sump is shallower in the crossmember area more so than even the EH also this is where the other red motor sumps will hit the FE crossmember. So comparing the two side by side here I think the torana one would fit.
