Just got back from 4 days on the car... Time flies when you get busy. Cruise control now works, as well as the instrument mode selector... Amazing what one missing wire does. Replaced a faulty ABS unit and bled brakes once again... Only to find another fault which I couldn't figure out yet. Moved the seats forward by 75mm to offset moving the floor pan back by 100mm all those years ago, by cutting another floor out of a VT and using the rails of that to extend the bolts positions. Didn't get photos though. Fixed a shocker that was hitting on the chassis by cutting and adjusting then welding it back up. Repainting the bit of floor that were affected by weld along the way. Then spent a day and a bit on the tonneau that was fabricated for me but didn't fit properly. The edges hit the body as well as the sides being way too high. 16 hours later and am happy with the results. Next will be the wiper motor again after we found the park position blown in the motor, heater-A/C, cowl vent and stereo.       |

Very nice JB. 16 hours well spent on the tonneau. Locking mechanism looks like the goods; do you have any more shots/links showing latch details?

I got the idea for the quick release fasteners from Pete.
They are from VPW if you are looking for more info. Hold up to 90kg apparently.
NES is just hiding the fact that he has bought them from me for his sedan. They won't be in the car when the interior gets done at the end of the year.
Just ordered a new wiper motor from England negative earth Lucas with 2 speed and intermittant. So hopefully that has solved another problem.

Yep. They'll be hidden like the rest of my gear to look like it's not there. My hidden stereo is full Bluetooth control by phone, my Virgin parcel shelf has sound but no evidence of speakers. Hidden tweeters as well. I'll mount the screens under the car so I can watch em while Woking on it |

Wonderful job
Could you post some pictures of the hinge set up.
I've made a frame but haven't managed to get correct articulation, tried various bonnet/boot hinges
but just not working.
Any advice pictures greatly appreciated

Hi guys,
I don't have any shots of the hinges at the moment, but will be able to get some next time I am there. The whole lot was made nearly 2 years ago now when the car was fabricated but I was over in New Zealand so could not look at the quality of the build as it didn't fit correctly and had to be altered a fair bit. I think that anyone could make one, you just need a few bits rolled to the contours of the ute behind the back window etc. The rest is just straight steel.
If making it from scratch I would get the 2 bits rolled first for the rear of the window and then make a frame around the inside of the tray that leaves a 10mm gap all of the way around. I am not sure of the 90 deg metal sizing, guessing 1mm steel 15 x 40-45mm.
I would then weld the 3 pieces from the rolled bar to the rear of the ute to give the shape of the hard cover.
Then if you look at the photos I guess you will be able to make it up from there.
Quick release latches from VPW, and then am getting a convertible cloth trim put over the whole lot.
I always had in mind that I wanted a hard cover but the thinnest I could possibly make it, as I don't prefer anything hanging over the edge or making the tray taller.

Pete has come through once again. Thank you mate!! Will be a bit stronger than the velcro holding it in there for the wedding photos.   The wheels also came back the other day from being altered. Fit some tyres and put on the car next week.  |
