For about $12 at your local electronics store you can get a "Laser Pointer" and with a rubber band, some tape and a sheet of chip-board you can have your very own bump-steer gauge.
Perfect for checking that rack installation!

If all is well the dots you mark, through the suspension travel, should all be in a straight line.

Hi sgo.

The set-up you have there is quite good, but you mention that all the dots should be in a straight line.

The line should also be dead vertical. If the line was straight but at say a 20 degree angle you would still have bad bump steer.

It's actually probably MORE important that it be near vertical than actualll dead straight.

Thanks Dr Terry,
So if the line is at an angle, with the ride height point in the centre, then you would have toe-in above the centre point and toe-out below the centre point, for example?  ?  ?

Hi sgo.

Yes, exactly, you do not want the line to be anything other than vertical, otherwise you will have toe variation on suspension travel, which of course is what bump-steer is.
