I placed your details into the decoder section within the tech area of the website and came up with the following.

There could be inconsistencies in the identification data - please check you entered it correctly
Unable to calculate manufacture date without the engine number
The trim number does not correspond with the paint numbers!
(Fountain Blue over Skyline Blue eq "Dominion Maroon over India Ivory" || Fountain Blue over Skyline Blue eq India Ivory)

Other Details
Chassis Number: FC-31352-S
Engine Number: XXXXXX

Results and Explanation
FC-225-17908-S Vehicle is an FC Special Sedan, the 17,908th manufactured in Sydney, NSW.
308-627 The Exterior Trim Code (308) describes this car as Two-Tone: Fountain Blue over Skyline Blue.
The Interior Trim Code (627) refers to: Fall Red & Black.
256-7770  The Primary (bonnet, guards) colour is India Ivory (in DUCO Lacquer)
253-9716  The secondary colour is Dominion Maroon (in DUCO Lacquer)
The vehicle was painted in the Mid 1959 scheme style (based on the ID No)
FC-31352-S The vehicle was assembled during 1959, and was the 30,352nd FC (in any bodystyle) assembled in Sydney, NSW.
XXXXXX Manufacture date (based on engine number) is Unknown (Not a valid grey motor engine number)

I would say you have misread a number or two, either that or someone had a bad day on the shop floor way back in 1959.

Hard to say what data is wrong here, 308 code is Fountain Blue over Skyline Blue, so this could be a typo, but then there is the trim colour as well which is wrong.

What colour is your car actually painted

It's Jim with the typo, Rod's original post does say trim code 304, which is Ascot Grey over Dominion Maroon.

Does the car have a 5" piece of stainess trim at the base of the "C" pillar, separating the roof colour from the insert colour, which continues over the boot?  If so it was built between Nov '58 and May '59.  If instead it has a thin diecast trim from the trailing edge of the driprail to the leading tip of the fin, then it was later than that.  If it has neither (which I doubt), it is May-Nov '58.

Ken might pull me up here, but I reckon it is probably early-ish 59.  The flashing brake lights aren't proof, as these were dropped at the end of  September 1959.  Does your body plate have the word "INSERT" on it?  From the codes you've given I'm presuming not, in which case it is the FJ-mid-'59 type ID plate.  (At some point in 1959 changes to the ID plate were made to show the PAINT, INSERT and TOP colours as three distinct numbers).

Also, going by the body number and chassis number which seem likely to tally (but Ken could say for sure), 30,000 puts it slap bang in the middle of the FC range (05/58-12/59), with about 60,000 vehicles at each of the three plants, which I'd say puts it about March 1959.  Indeed, chassis numbers starting with FC were introduced 11/12/1958, which makes your chassis far more likely to belong to a '59 model.

That's my semi-educated guess, anyway Grin

cheers
