Whilst not strictly in the parts book, it came into use on FE and FC vehicles

FE & early FC had the larger valve stem hole in the wheels for tubeless tyres which I believe were
fitted from new

The early tubeless valve stems were wider at the base than the ones we use today

When fitting tubes these doo hickey's were required to centre the valve stem within the larger hole

As the early wheel centres were only riveted to the rims, tubeless tyres were sometimes prone to leaking air
from the rivet holes

Later on the rivets were replaced with spot welds

Up until a few years ago you could still hunt down the wider tubeless valve stems, not sure if they are still available these days

From memory I'm sure I've seen a bulletin stating that Holden went to tubeless tyres sometime in 1955, during FJ production???

Zulu, I couldn't have said it better. I'm pretty sure the larger tubeless stems are still available. I had them fitted on the 3 tone sedan but that was a little while ago I guess. Cry
