1  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Wheel Cylinders - To sleeve or not to sleeve on: August 14, 2025, 07:35:02 PM
Harv is correct..dont mix different brake fluids ..If you change from Glycol to Silicone or vice versa its a full system flush  ..As stated I believe best life of NON stainless sleeved original cylinders in good condition synthetic is way to go ..
2  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Wheel Cylinders - To sleeve or not to sleeve on: August 10, 2025, 09:13:23 AM
Gents ..Brake cylinder problems no surprise...one point I would like to suggest ..I was told by a very highly regarded development engineer when restoring my FC ...Vern when you do your brakes ,as your car will probably stand for extended periods, use synthetic brake fluid ..he said , all brake fluids attract moisture , BUT !!! with synthetic it wont mix into the fluid , so less chance of rust based problems .., he made the comment , no good in very low temperatures where the water can freeze in the system ..that doesn't apply in Australia ..I use Penrite , 10 TENTHS 600 hundred racing full synthetic brake fluid .
3  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: Vacuum/ Electric Wiper conversion FC on: August 10, 2025, 08:37:51 AM
Norman ..I used a EK electric motor in my FC  ..From memory , {which is fading fast } I used the FC arms , but I had to swap the square nylon bushes for the round ones , or vice a versa ..any way it was not a big deal at all...Vern .

5  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: wheel cylinder dimensions on: July 23, 2025, 07:01:07 AM
OK Thanks ..I wanted to be clear before I embark on an overhaul of the brakes ..I like to assemble all parts needed to do the job rather than dismantle and then start looking around for what I need ..correct identification of what I have to work with is critical , changes can be made in the life of a 67 year old vehicle ..Vern .
6  Technical Board / General Technical / wheel cylinder dimensions on: July 19, 2025, 07:01:58 AM
are the wheel cylinder on FC the same size as FB ....are the rubber cups the same front and rear ?  ...

8  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: front brake shoe spring on: July 06, 2025, 08:59:03 AM
Thanks for the offer Errol ..There are two on the car and look a little better than yours ..I have to do a brake overhaul and decided to put new ones regardless ..so i wont trouble you to post it , thanks .I took the car to the local inspection station for rego check ..It was very embarrassing , just as I drove in the front RH wheel locked up .. The friction material on the leading shoe came away from the metal shoe and travelled around with the drum and jammed the mechanism and the wheel ...B and R brakes had a set of shoes on the shelf , two sets in fact ..so I got out of trouble , passed rego , I am not happy with one of the cylinders , also hand brake is sticky ,so i'll do a overhaul all round ..
9  Galleries / Project Cars - FEs and FCs Under Construction / Re: Jolls FC Ute Project on: July 03, 2025, 07:28:35 AM
Jolls  ..I had to clean out the fuel system on a fire fighting pump , left in a shed for ages and probably had E10 fuel go dry ...Citrus based paint stripper , can't recall the brand , but it was in a orange coloured tin , did a brilliant job ... Vern ..
10  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: FC UTe Shocks on: July 01, 2025, 07:16:51 AM
Jolls ..I have Gabriels on my FC Special Sedan ( stock ) nothing special but no problems either ..Vern ..
11  Galleries / Project Cars - FEs and FCs Under Construction / Re: Jolls FC Ute Project on: June 27, 2025, 09:03:02 AM
Jolls ..My FC sedan 1958 Sydney build never had seperate rear blinkers ..tail/ brake lights blinked in the top red lense ..bottom lense clear but doing nothing ..I got some globe holders , EK wiring diagram , put in the extra couple of wires as per that diagram , new blinker canister , and fitted amber LED globes ...for me its a safety thing , in general traffic we see amber blinkers all the time ..people dont see a blinking brake light in red ..poor old bugger got his wiring mixed up , his brake is blinking not his blinker lense ...win/win ..Vern ..
12  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / front brake shoe spring on: June 26, 2025, 01:25:52 PM

13  General / 2025 - Cockburn, WA - 20th FE-FC Nationals / Re: Driving to NATs from NSW on: May 10, 2025, 08:28:25 AM
Wow ! Just a bit of water , thats normal ..and no engine oil burning or leaking in 5,000 miles is just great ..I don't think you could ask for more than that ..
14  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Seat Belts on: May 09, 2025, 08:06:01 AM
When I took my restored FC for initial inspection for club rego , the inspector said to me you dont have to have seat belts if the car originally never had them , but now you do you know you and any passengers must always wear them ...we chatted on , and when he looked at the mounting bolt thru the B pillar , I just commented , I really dont like those bolts and drilling right thru the pillar , I was tempted to cut out the inside of the pilar and mount a blind fitting , he said , well I wouldn't pass that because I cant see it , this Rare Spare bolt kit must be sold as an approved item so i'll ok it ...

16  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Original Steering Wheel Restoration on: April 14, 2025, 07:24:56 AM

17  General / General Board / Re: FC Headlight surrounds on: March 17, 2025, 07:31:19 AM
Jay Jay ..search here on this forum concerning the chrome headlight surrounds , I think you will find there were two makers , if my memory is correct one type is Lucas and the other GMH ( Nasco )..They are slightly different internally , can interchange buts it not exact , in my case FC Special sedan we did both guards with the one test piece ( a unchromable one but good internally ) , but when fitting up the two good ones , one was excellent just like the test sample , the other not quite right , sitting proud by about 1.5 mm ..learned why on this forum and hunted around and got another ..Vern ..

20  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: carby parts ..power JET on: March 06, 2025, 08:12:00 AM
Thanks for the information gents ..firstly I made a typo , the one I thought was a 64 is actually a 65 ..and yes it is intended for a grey engine ...SO ! do I conclude correctly this valve was sized by GMH to the engine capacity , and therefore to the particular series of carby that was also fitted to that engine .
