22  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: AC Bypass Oil Filter Thread Sizes on: November 30, 2023, 10:08:42 AM
In some circles , rough mine  fitters for example , the belief in what is the difference between NPT ( national pipe thread ) ie American and BSP ( British Standard pipe ) is a bigger shifter ..The pitch is different and the TPI is different ..Except in 1/2 inch which is interchangeable .and BSP is actually Whithworth pitch and NPT is just that NPT ..so UNF and UNC and BSF don't figure when talking BSP.....I dont know if the thread pitch of NPT is UNF or not , I sorta think NPT has its own pitch ..bit of trivia for you ...a lot of errors are made when working with steel pipe , the old English standard is based on the ID of the pipe not the OD of the pipe , and people would want to thread say a piece of gal pipe , BSP taper male thread on outside of pipe , pretty standard old plumbing job , so measure the bore of the pipe.OH ! one inch....so that a one inch pipe thread cutting die , typical BSP thread ,think about it , British Standard Pipe , lot of confusion ,imagine this over the phone, supplier to client .. what size pipe do you have ? , well it measures one and a quarter inches on the OD ..gal pipe or steam pipe , black pipe , water pipe ? answer gal pipe ...Ok, its one inch gal pipe. you work of the id not the od ..Why Huh because of different wall thicknesses ...go down the shed and get a one inch steel fitting and measure the female thread on the ID..It will be more than one inch , probably one and a quarter inches..but its stamped one inch ...scratch head ? it come back to the fact the piece of pipe male thread that screws into that fitting is one inch on the ID..Vern .

Hi Jolls ..Best choice of brass fittings NPT , BSP ,GAS, Metric I have found is either Industrial Fitting Sales at Ingleburn , or Westinghouse Air and Brake ( Wabtec ) at Hornsby or Rydlemere ..They have good range of NPT ..Vern ..

26  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: 12V Bosch Generator - Exploded Diagram on: November 12, 2023, 06:20:58 AM
Hi Jolls  .I rebuilt my Bosch generator myself , I have the bearing part number somewhere , it wasn;t were I thought it would be ..quite straight forward really  ...I removed the paper from the field coils and wrapped in fabric tape , not too much there is minimal clearance and then coated that with varnish ..I have a few sets of various brush sets , I found some I could grind down to size on a green stone and have been working for few years now ..Vern .
27  Galleries / Project Cars - FEs and FCs Under Construction / Re: Jolls FC Ute Project on: October 27, 2023, 06:15:00 AM
Same with my '58 Special Sedan ..Flashing rear brake light as turn indicator ...modern day drivers and or people who arent into cars think your lights are faulty  ..I didn't want some one overtaking me whilst turning cause the didn't see my brake light flashing  ..as the others have covered here , my clear lenses are period correct , so extra pair of globe holders ,extra wires as per FB wiring , also covered elsewhere here , and LED amber globes front and back , new flasher canister to suit ..my intention to turn is very clear ..dont have blokes hanging out window yelling " should a got a sparky mate !!! Or as one lady said during resto " why dont the blinkers work , They are !!! cant you see the red brake light is blinking ? NO ! why did you do that ? Thats the blinker lense there isn't it ? Drivers cant make decisions about what they cant see ,That is the message I get from that ,Its a real safety issue for me ,and obviously Holden were intending to get around to it ...

34  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Tail light lens and wiring on: June 21, 2023, 07:01:53 AM
Ronno ..In my case 1958 FC special sedan ..the lower rear clear lense never fitted with globe or holder ex factory and was that way when I got the car in 2016 .and thats bcause the brake light was also the rear blinker , obvously Holden had the fitting there and got it together in 1959 ..I decided that in traffic and todays drivers they would think " that poor old bugger has a problem with his brake light , not realising I am going to make a turn ...so I got bulb holders , kept clear lense , put in amber LED globes , moved the blinker wire from brake lights to the new amber holder . extra wire is needed as per a FB or EK diagram ..for me its what people recognise as an amber turning indicator and therefor safer ..Vern .

37  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: carby throttle body on: April 28, 2023, 07:12:29 AM
Thanks Harv ..I'll answer your question later today , I have probably inquired too soon , I'll cut a story down to a tale ..I built a grey motor on a steel transport and run it as a demo at Fagan park museum ..when putting it away on Anzac day it fell over and landed in such a way that it cracked the throttle body right thru ..we had a lot of displays to pack up , I didn't worry about it then, so I will go up today remove the carby and check out the damage and come back to you ...thanks Vern ..
