Members...
Well here it is.. My old FC Ute just prior to being removed from the farm for restoration. As you can see it's nearly ready for registration.. Just pump up the tyres and a few other minor things and I should be right....right??

Seriously, It's on its way but it will be a long road. I see that it has got an FE bonnet attached but the original bonnet is in the tray area so it will be swapped when I get around to it.

As I said in earlier posts i have a spare FE special sedan and another FC ute to use for parts so i should be able to save the ute at the expense of the other two.
I just wanted to know if the chrome strips on the side of the ute were common extras? I have only seen strips on Specials..

Greg,

Interesting - looks like your old ute had a crank-handle too.

The typical "Special" trim was never fitted to factory utes or vans.  You see it on the odd one though, lifted from a special wagon (due to location of fuel-filler).

What you've got there (I think - have to check in the book) is a Tilli Styletone kit for a ute.  Not common at all.  Here is a pic of another I have seen.



On the subject of pics, you either have to resize them with IrfanView (PC) or GraphicConverter (Mac), or adjust the size parameters within the [ img ] tags. (This is what I do when large pics get posted.)  The syntax is:
   [ img width=x height=y ] URL [ /img ]

I've fixed your previous pic using this method.

In the Tilli catalogue it's called the "Styletone Capri" and the line drawing shows a sedan.  Does the kit you have contain a break where the rear door gap would be or is it a full length strip?
In my opinion it is the rarest stripe kit overall.
I have never seen one and RET's picture is the only one I know of other than yours.
Does anyone know of another car with this kit?

Do you have the rest of the stripes for your car?

G'day Ken..
I've checked the strip and it is in one piece from the door all the way to the tail lights. I have the complete set ( the piece missing in the picture is inside the cab). They are in perfect condition except for a well overdue polish. I didnt know that the strips were so rare on a ute. I have checked the history of the ute back about 30 years and have found that the strips have always been on it. Just by looking it's probably a factory original. The body identification plate tells me that it is a ute (of course. ie 2106) and it is the 4508th utility produced in Melbourne. It's also fitted with a heater which also appears to be either a factory fit or fitted soon after manufature. Did they put heaters in vehicles off the productiion line?
This new info has given me more determination to get into it...

G'day RET..
No. My FC doesn't have that badge on it. I've checked and there are no holes or marks where the badge may have been. I just can't see what it reads. Can you tell me? Also do you know the history of the ute in the photo that you posted? Is it an FE of FC and are the strips original or were they added during restoration? It would be interesting to see if my ute was built around the same time as the one in the photo. Perhaps Holden may have had a few sets left over from wagons so they put them on a couple of utes?

Greg,

I can tell you the trim would definitely not have been fitted at the factory, simply because Tilli was a 3rd party manufacturer of these strips for Holdens and many other makes (they're common on VWs, for example).  They were commonly fitted by Holden dealers, so in that sense they could have been fitted "from new".

Good to hear your kit is complete.  Gotta be happy about that!

On the subject of the heater: again, probably dealer-fitted rather than factory.  If it was indeed fitted at manufacture, there would be an entry on the ID plate next to the RPO (Regular Production Option) label.  I don't have an RPO code for a heater in my documentation, but that's not to say it wasn't a possibility.

The badge says "Styletone", and the vehicle is an FC.  The car belongs to an ex-club member who has moved away from Sydney now.  I'm not sure if I have any contact details for him, but I will check.  I don't know any of the other history of the car, other than - as stated in previous post - this would have been a dealer rather than factory option.

Very interesting.  I looked more in the Tilli catalogue and it appears the swooping section from the front spear is called "Styletone" and the upper straight section is called "Capri"
In the catalogue, there are 3 parts listed for the kit -
"Moulding front door"
"Moulding rear door"
"Badge - Styletone only available"
I have a photo of a very original FC with styletone trim kit with faded original Ornamental jewel right in the same place where your photo has the badge.

The green FC in the Holden Museum at Echuca has the 'Moulding front door' and 'Moulding rear door' sections fitted to it.  I saw this car at the end of September 2003, it might still be on display there.

gday all of those tilli kit aprecianados.
i've a kit on my eh ute.
when i can post pics i will.
i've never seen another on a ute of any type in the flesh.
no badge or jewel on mine.
i will be selling my ute, regretfully, Cry when i have a fc of fe wagon and get it registered.
there was an eh ute at the last club expo i attended but he had made his from scratch. i also have pics of this. Smiley

ok i'm not so dumb after all.
i managed to work out photos and have started a new thread....
stu's wagon.
i don't have one yet but just wait and see.



the reason why iv 'e so rudely crashed this thread here is the first pic is of the ute with the side flash. albiet an out-sider.
