I have planted the ecotech V6 in the wagon and its all bolted back together, just need to get the cooling sorted.

On the v6 conversions website (Pat Gardner) it states "It is best to use the original radiator, it is advisable to have the radiator serviced, and run an overflow tank and radiator cap. In all these conversions we run a 16” thermo fan which is mounted in front of the radiator and plugs into our wiring loom"

Everyone I have spoken too has said NO WAY!, I have been recommended a ali tank, what has everyone else done? Good/Bad experiences?

desert rad in melb can make exactly what you require also one of a few who do original recores

Any idea what he does? I would prefer to not have to butcher the front end to get it in (thats the one bit I unbutchered when I rebuilt the car, then cut and changed everything else Smiley

I obviously need to keep it cool, and I guess local to WA would be preferable.

stuffed up the name its aussie desert coolers ph 0393284321 they have made quite a few rads for fcs and should know your requirements for this conv

If V6 Conv recommend the original radiator, then Aussie Desert Coolers should be able to do one in their triple flow designs. I would say you couldn't go to far wrong with that.

I have used the original Commodore radiator, overflow bottle and aftermarket 16" thermo up-front and it works fine.

Mike,

It seems strange to recommend the original radiator when it is only designed for 6psi system pressure?

SGO, what is your cap rated at? 15 psi or so?

Go the Aussie Desert Cooler route if you want the original size, but go bigger because there is nothing worse than a car that overheats. Over engineer and enjoy!!!

Yes, I guess about 15psi, or whaterver is stock on a commodore?

heh heh...

I've got torana V8 tanks with a 4 row core in steel, cut down to fit under a modified rad support top bar.  Apparently aluminium radiators can't be repaired??? (or so i was told)  this isn't to say they are not better at cooling.

anyway I have a flex fan, shroud, overflow tank and additional ECU controlled thermo on it..  I think it may be OK in traffic now, but I subscribe to CraigA's school of thought.
If it overheats now I will not be happy.

If you haven't cut out your raditor panel, the Aussie coolers look excellent, these were not available when I started my project.

just another way to skin a cat.

Mike,

I too have the Ecothech V6 and used the Vt radiator and the thernofans that were part of the Vt. I took off the original tanks, cut the core down to fit inder the bonnet latch area and then welded new aluminium tanks onto the radiator... It all works a treat.

It all helps... there is a lot of cutting involved in that one! but it looks nice.
