decoding help

Hi,
 Guys need help this car has got me stumped.
 The coding on it dose not match anywhere.

  BODY          FC225-30054-S
  TRIM           76-629
  PAINT          253-5300

 Could someone please help decode this girl as the website link that you have has said it dose not match.

The paint number is Wangarra Grey.  Ken would be able to tell you how rare on a single-tone car that colour is.

However, that trim number 76 is some new data for the database.  Wangarra Grey was introduced in 1954, which makes it an FJ colour.  So the relatively low number would seem to be consistent.  (It returned as an FC colour in 1959, with a different paint formula.)  Holden reused the Trim code if the same colour(s) had been used previously, which is why an all-black HR has trim code 4, same as a 48 or FE/FC.

629 is the code for a Riff Red & Black interior.

  It has the red & black interior as the plate codes say. So are you saying that it is a single colour exterior even though it is a FC SPECIAL.

Correct.  Like my car, or Les Hewitt's (which is pictured in the new edition of Sideplate), or Wayne's.  Although you couldn't get two-tone Standards or Commercials, it was certainly possible to have a one-colour Special.  It will probably have a secondary colour in the door-jambs and the inside face of the B pillar.

BTW - Part of what I previously wrote was incorrect (although it was extraneous to the question).  Paint Code 4 was valid from 48 to FB.  Once Carlsbad Black (the DULON Black) was introduced, the colour code changed to 500.  Thanks Dr Terry for that bit of detail.  He was also able to tell me that even though Wangarra Grey was introduced into the GM-H paint books in '54, it wasn't actually used on FJs in production, and only saw the light of day in 1959.

My Balm Paint book lists Wangara Grey as 1954 and 1958 release.

Kath, very unusual car indeed - most likely a fleet car originally.  Can you advise the chassis number from the car as  well please?
Are there any other numbers at all on the ID plate?

Hey Kath.....
You sound surprised that your FC is suposed to be a single tone... does that mean it's a two-tone at present? And I guess if so, are you planning to take her back to a single-tone...?

Welcome to the world of single-tone FC specials BTW.... There aren't too many around, but there are a few interesting theories going around about them... there were about 3 of us at the last Nationals I think from memory.... they're not as flashy as those 2-tones jobs, but they're still FCs

A fleet car sounds interesting too....
