I JUST BOUGHT AN FE SPECIAL IN PRIMER THAT IS DEAD STRAIGHT AND NO RUST. I AM WONDERING WHAT THE GENERAL CONSESUS IS IF THE VEHICLE IS RESTORED AS AN FC SPECIAL (IT ONLY CAME WITH CHROME FOR AN FC) I'M NOT KEEN ON THE FE's (SORRY TO THOSE WHO RATE EM) BUT WANTED TO KNOW HOW IT WOULD TAKE IN THIS KIND OF COMMUNITY.

IMHO, who cares what other people think? as long as YOU are happy with the car.
If I listened to people about my car, it would still be baby blue.
You never know there maybe a cure for your preference of FCs over FEs  Tongue

WOW what a quick reply.
The car has holes for FE Special for two rows of chrome (where it dips on the rear door) but i'm told its near on impossible to get a hold of em. So i'll have to seal the holes and make new ones. As for the preference, I just think the FC looks like its more finished and styled.

Selling the car or with the wife? Tongue

Who knows?  It depends on so many things.  For what it's worth though, bear in mind that restored cars sell better than modifieds, and whilst you're unlikely to get rich rebuilding cars and selling them, you don't tend to lose as much money with authentic or original vehicles.

If the chrome you're referring to from the FE is a "Detroit" kit like this one:

then they do turn up on Ebay from time to time, and they look very tasty indeed.

Hope that helps.

Is this such a hard question to answer?

Sell the wife into slavery, keep the car, and turn it into an FC.

Problem solved.

Next question please, and could you make them harder from now on? ;-)

Cheers,

Craig.

Craig, Craig, Craig, Craig,.........Craig

Tongue Tongue

where were you when the virtues of the FE were being extolled across the airwaves Grin

Seriously though - you are quite correct in believing that the majority of people would prefer an FC over an FE.  In fact if you painted it red and white with FC chrome it would most likely have a higher resale value than anything else you did.

On the other hand, the detroit style chrome looks very good, but is pretty hard (and expensive) to find.  Pity its all missing.
Is your car really an FE special?  does it have a row of holes around the body just below window height?  If not it is a standard or business sedan.  What does the ID plate read on the firewall?

Yeah it has the holes around the base of the windows aswell and definitly says 225 on the id plate. If you tell me how to put a pick on the site I can post it. Trim and paint codes say its frankston cream without insert colour. interior is red and cream which is still all there. I even grabbed a little fridge magnet to check for large bog and it stuck every where. with all door trims removed I couldn't see anything bad at the bottom of the doors either. Hr font that came with it is pretty stuffed though.
Did the FE come out with the detroit chrome standard? I dont mind the fe trims but theres something sexy bout that FC Special trim that gets the misses going.......so....

If you mean 'Detroit' as in a Detroit kit then no, they didn't. They were an aftermarket flash kit, most notably from a firm called Tilli's and are now quite rare though they do turn up occasionally on Ebay. Check out this old thread for info on Tilli's flash kits for FE/FC's. http://www.fefcholden.org.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=general;action=display;num=1013610183
