Hi guys....I'm back on-line !  I've been off the site for a while due to a number of reasons, none the least being stuck in hospital for 2 weeks with a stuffed knee.  Was shifting a 107cm Plasma TV at work and twisted my knee, tearing cartlidge on the left side and ligaments on the right side, needless to say, I'm not going to see the inside of my shed for some time !

Which brings me to this question.   I have totally rebuilt my replica XU1 Red 202 about 4 or 5 months back.  Time has got away from me with moving house and stuff, now my knee has prolonged the time away from the motor and car even more, and I don;t want the thing to seize up.    
A friend told me to fill the motor FULL with oil, ( about 15 litres or so ) full right to the top of the rocker cover, that way everything that should be coated would be, if only in a static way.

Is this the best way to store the engine ?  

I was also told to put oil down the spark plug holes into the cylinders themselves.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, as I have spent a lot of money on this motor, it's all painted, chromed, and looking a million dollars, and I don;t want the thing to lock up on me whilst I spend the next few months getting back on my feet !

If I don;t reply straight away I appologise, as I am still off work, and using a friends computer.

I'm open to any and  all suggestions.

Mark.
         All you have to do is put the right amount of oil in the motor which is about  3.5 litres fill up the oil filter with oil, get an oil can with new oil in it and squirt it into the oil pump and refit filter, squirt about 3or4 squirts into each cylinder and turn motor over by hand about a dozen times, squirt anouther 5 or 6 squirts into each cylinder and refit spark plugs. Then every couple of weeks turn motor over by hand a few times.

PS never over fill motor with oil so it comes out the rocker cover that's a no no!!!!!!!!

Here's what happens if you leave a motor for twenty years and then squirt oil into the bores the week you are selling the car...



Of course, no one would actually clean, wire brush, prepare and paint a motor without checking its condition first? Roll Eyes

Thanks Al.....looks like you may have saved me from a fate worse than death.

Is there any particaular grade oil for the job......really thin or really thick or doesn't it matter !

Hi Mark,
             I'd be using a 15 \ 40 grade of oil ( eg. GTX3 ) it's a fairly good oil and thin enough to prime the oil pump quickly and it should coat all of the internal parts, but drain it out before you intend on starting your motor. You don't run a new motor on oil full of additives. Hope this helps.
