Sunvisor on the outside (steel) or sunvisor on the inside (covered board)?

G'day Snoopy,
The sunvisor does come apart, but as for colour it is dark brown on top so you would probably have to paint it to match yours. As for the aqua underneath that is standard on all sunvisors, only the top colour varies to suit the colour of the roof.
I haven't got a wagon roof lining only one to suit  a sedan.
If you want this item please let me know.
Cheers Col.

I'm about ready to paint my FC outside Sunvisor and was surprised to read here that they were all "aqua green underneath"  The one I have has black paint underneath and I can see no evidence of aqua green paint.

If that is correct can someone tell me the color number for the correct aqua green. or perhaps post a pic of the color. Yeah I know can't guarantee its accurate but it's better than a guess.

Kevin
We will need to confirm this with Ken Mclean but as far as i was aware far from being all aqua?? they should be satin or matt black as to reduce glare and shadowing that you would get from a color. I have never seen any Aqua ones in Victoria maybe it was a particular state thing?

Hi Guys.
The ones down here seemed to be painted a greenish colour. Like the green on the FC Commercials. I have had NOS visors & they were all the common NOS Black. Maybe some just got the top colour coat & the underside was left black.

Guys,
I have some Nasco newsletters (somewhere?) that confirm that both the the light green & the black is correct for the underside of the sunvisors.

Kevin, it was good to meet you at the swap meet the other day (I was with Tony G), we checked out your ute before we left, it's a pretty good example.....I'm impressed.

Cheers,

Graham

Thanks Graham, going to the Swap Meet was the longest drive I've had it on so far.  Got home with no problems at all (knew I would).  I've now clocked up 200 miles.  I'm also pretty impressed with it as well and the more I work in it the more impressed I get.  Grin

Now that it's registered I can start tidying up some of the little things, like fitting the sun visor, fixing a couple of minor oil leaks, replacing the floor in the back etc etc.

I have a few sunvisors and all are painted in a satin finish green on the underside.  Two different shades of green are evident.  My sunvisors were purchased from: Tasmania (one), Victoria (one), ACT (two).  I have had new paint made up for the lighter shade, nothing yet for the darker shade.

Over the years, every sunvisor that I have seen in wrecking yards (still bolted to the car) have had green undersides.   I have not ever seen a sunvisor (in NSW), in 'original' condition, with an underside painted any colour other than green.  The sunvisors were fitted to every make of vehicle available in Australia since 1950.

Cheers

Well I finally have my sunvisor fitted, and looks good too.

I finished up painting it matt black underneath and surprisingly from the driver's position it reflects a darker color of the bonnet, so it looks blue anyway.

Hi guys,
Just found what I've been looking for...

To quote exactly from the Nasco Monthly Newsletter (MNL-186) dated 1st December 1958, Page 3:

"NEW ANTI-RUST FINISH FOR NASCO SUN SHADES
A change has been made in the painting of all NASCO Sunshades to improve quality and finish and give greater protection from rust.

Instead of the conventional grey primer on top and green paint underneath a black dip is now used which provides a uniform dust free finish ready to accept the final coat.

The dipping process ensures that the coat of paint is uniform and to a specified thickness complying to GMH specifications.  It also ensures satisfactory adhesion to the metal thus eliminating the possibilities of rust spots forming due to poor coverage.  Because the panels are completely immersed in the dip and the aluminium beading is applied after the paint is baked, all surfaces are completely covered leaving no bare metal to set up rust spots.

Field reactions indicate that the black underside of the shield is if anything, more restful on the eyes than the green previously used and also that it is a better match of colour with the top of the instrument panel on Holden and other vehicles."

Hope this clears up the mystery....

Cheers

The Sun Visor on my 56 Elk Blue FE has been painted on the underside Pearl Blue.
The visor was dealer fitted some months after purchase (as I have a photo of the car without a sun visor).
On a Elk Blue Special the inner door uppers and dash top is Pearl Blue, so the painter just matched it.
Looks good, and definitely better than green or black.
