Hi there,
I'm looking at an FC wagon in Albury NSW this afternoon, has had a rebuilt grey motor (only 7000kms on that motor), is totally stock, good interior, but the car has been out of a shed and unused for 15 years! Comes with an incomplete body and some parts (not sure what yet!). I have a fair idea where to look for serious rust, eg floors, sills, lower guards, headlight peaks, tailgate, subframe and lower pillars, is there anything else I need to be mindful of? I can't hear the car going as it needs a battery and some TLC to get her going again (as I said hasn't been started for 15 years). He wants $1500 for the lot, does that sound reasonable from you guys who have bought and sold cars recently (seems a bit dear to me)? He says it has a little rust but not too bad. I will get some photos (including the ID plates also for the plate ID gurus here!). Any advice would be appreciated! I understand that after you see the pics it'll be easier to make comment on the price!
Thanks
Peter

OK I had a look, was 100% complete, but been affected with the cancer pretty bad, but might be good for parts. Original owner even knew the purchase date, 9/9/59. Here's the plate details in order on the plate for Ken and others:
FC / 229 - 3757M 254-857 253-7773 253-5300 253-7773
There is a second FC Special wagon body shell to go with the car, was 80% complete, no motor or box but the plate could not be read, any tips on cleaning them up?
I'd post up some photos, but I can't seem to master the technology yet!!
Any thoughts on the plate of the other car??
Thanks
Peter

Peter, as usual, rust very quickly values or devalues a car. Sounds to me unless there is some real goodies amongst that lot then $1500 would be about $1000 too much. If you were aftre a good grey motor, OK it might be worth a bit more to you, but seriously, a notor that has been sitting that long will probably need a strip down and clean before using.

Yes I tend to agree Ken. The car has been resprayed, just wondering if you can you tell me what the original colour scheme was from those numbers?
Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter, According to the FE-FC technical section the wagon you are looking at should be:
254-857 The Exterior Trim Code (254) describes this car as Two-Tone: Wangarra Grey over Ascot Grey. The Interior Trim Code (857) refers to: Riff Red & Black. 253-7773 The Primary (bonnet, guards) colour is Ascot Grey (in DUCO Lacquer) 253-5300 The secondary colour is Wangarra Grey (in DUCO Lacquer)
Cheers, Gary

Exactly right, nothings impossible - but is it economically viable? Both these cars look like they have been left outside for a LONG time with the windows open and uncovered. Have a look at the inside shots, everything seems to have water stains. Sure sign that there is plenty of rust lurking.
If your keen on a wagon wait and a good one will turn up. If you aren't fussed and a sedan is your go, buy the one Fast Eddie has for sale. A very good low mileage car, at a very realistic price.
Good Luck Peter,
Craig.

Thanks guys, yes those are 'parts bins' only, I've made an offer (far less than the asking price), we'll see how we go!
