hi all.

i thought i'd seen a post on this before, but couldnt find it. does anyone know of a supplier and installer of aftermarket electric windows? in sydney. thanks

I dont know about going to the effort of buying a aftermarket kit, they look tricky.
I found some motors out the front of a scrap metal yard once in some 910 series bluebird lx doors (81-86) they sat in my shed for a while then one day i tried to fit them, i borrowed a welder and tried modifying the arms but ended up getting the shits.
About 6 months later I was sitting on the can or something when I thought of using different arms, I went out and pulled my door apart and everything just seem to go together using the datsun motor screwed straight up to the holden regulator, took about a hour and a half and i was watching my window go up and down electrically.
I then went down to dick smith and bought some swithces (on/on 30 amp 12v 6 leg) and it was all happening.
I have only done my front doors as I havent crossed any more free motors for the back (cheap bastard) I recently splurged on a set of window switches that were standard on 59 buick/olds/chev/pontiac to keep within period, they were nearly $100 AU by time I got them.
I had decided to utillise the boot release function on my remote central locking to put my window up as I had a habbit of walking of with my window down since i drive rain hail or shine with the window down.
this meant I had to change my set up, I fitted two relays to allow the low output of the remote module to put my window up, one was for up and the other down. if you do this you can use any amp on/on switch as long as it looks cool.
wiring looks tricky when you look at it but is actually very simple.
pay attention to what you are doing so you dont smoke any wires and use heavy wire if you are not using relays like 20 amp +, I used a 25 amp fuse and ran two wires accross behind the dash to operate the passenger window from the drivers door.
try to keep wirring minimal in the door jamb, there is no need to run earth as it is already in the door.
if you run relays in your doors you only need one heavy wire for main power.
I had to cut out part of the door trim board for clearance on the motor but it is not noticable from the side you see.
newer cars have smaller motors that may make it even easier, as long as the gear lines up with the teeth on the holden winder mechanism.

I remember a few years bck when I built a Street Rod, I bought some window motors that were aftermarket and simply slid onto the regulator spline. they were designed to look like an armrest and worked really well. I can't remeber the brand I got them at a swap meet, but they were brand new and Australian made. If anyone knows of them or where to get them I wouldn't mind another set

there pretty old kits, they had them at either jaycar or tandy, I think they also incorperated a courtesy light.
they would probably look a bit out of place in a FC.
most modern kits fit behind the door trim and there are heaps around in the states, when I was looking for the chevy window switches on ebay they kept poping up.

Hey Leon,

Your fast glass motors look good, they just sit over the normal winder mechanism then?

have seen aftermarket kits with cable driven motors for about 350/pair, considerably more than your 12 bucks, but they come with slides and stuff too.. very trick. go to http://www.airide.com.au (i think..)

I agree the jaycar units are crap, I tried to use them on my old bedford, but they're not strong enough to pull a skin off a custard.

Wiring is pretty easy when u get into it huh... it's just a huge PITA.

my $.02 on something I no naught about lol.

thanks for all the feedback.

i was actually looking for some for my 77 volvo. the feedback made me look into original volvo gear, and i ended up finding a set on ebay for $20 a window. there was no relay with the mechanish, i hadnt thought about the basic electrics with this stuff, was just going to wire it up direct to the power source. so will now make sure i check that out first

while i'm at it, i'll see if they might fit into the fc, but not my current car, maybe a future project
