hear hear, i'd like to second what wayne has just said
a big double thumbs up for Ret  Grin
i have learnt so much from this site and have found it to be probably the best forum on line, whether your car is a resto, standard, mild or wild custom, there has been no discrimination just encouragement and a genuine interest. i think i came onto this site when there was less than 200 members.

well done Ret and everyone else, thank you

I remember when there was only three members  Grin

800 members and only about 100 cars at the Nats. Where is everyone? Are lots of cars under construction? Or do people have other models but frequent this site for info. I've stuck a poll up to find out.

Congratulations on the best run and most active old car forum in Australia (in my opinion).

further to this poll, any ideas how many of these members are active, or in other words, how many of the 800 are inactive or no longer visit the site?

Interesting question.

There are logs for 706 of the 800 users.  FIIK why the rest don't have one, possibly too old, or never been past the main forum page (although that seems odd).

Anyway, here's a quick and dirty graph showing that nearly 20% of that 800 have logged in at some point over the last 3 days, and fully 50% within the last 6 months.  About 35% haven't been seen for over a year.

...or looking at that another way:

Thanks everyone for the kind words, but this isn't my blog you know Roll Eyes
It's all of you getting stuck in and having a say that makes this board the success that it is.

cheers

Great work RET. So that means 400 people have actively logged on to this site in the past six months.

OK, so back to my original question - why do we only get a gathering of 100 cars at a Nationals?

As Julius Sumner Miller would have said - BUT WHY IS IT SO?

1. Only 1/4 of the 400 who came here in the past six months have an FE FC AND are a member of one of the state or affiliate clubs.

2. The Nats don't interest all 400 people.

3. Not enough of these 400 people are members of one the clubs (which you need to be to participate in the Nats)

4. Some other reason? Distance? Scared their car allegedly isn't good enough? Don't like clubs? Don't like trophy hunters?

Any ideas?

I'll leave the poll up for about a week and see what happens. RET, could you make it STICKY for that time?

Cheers,

Craig.

Fact is RET without somebody pulling the strings and pushing the buttons nothing works very well, so stop being modest, you and I am sure some helpers have put together an unbelievable amount of info and all available from my little box of silicon.  Wink

thanks for a great site

Very interesting question's that you have asked. I know that I dont have to explain myself but this might help with a few of the questions. Sadly I wont be attending the nationals. There are a few reasons one is after seeing some other members cars, it made me think that it was time mine came back off the road and I spent a bit of time on it and as much effort as I have put into others. But that was easy to get around just turn up but dont enter the car. So there may be others out there thinking along the same line.
Then over christmas I had a little bit of a health scare, which has turn out to be a can of worms. So thats the reason that I am not going to be able to make it to the nats and why I have not been around here much of late. I am sure that as always there will be some great photos put up by yourself.
By the time the next nats come around all should be good on the health front and the Wagon that Emu passed on to me shall be there come hell or high water.

Ret we all know that there are those of us that are true GURUS as this status question often comes up. The truth be know you are the GURU your efforts here are of such epic proportion that thanks just doesnt seem to come close to saying what we are all thinking.

Cheers

Ret,
you have my full admiration of your skills and talents in keeping this website going.  I am fairly incompetent with computers so I understand that I don't understand what a great job you are doing.  It must take a hell of a lot of time as well.

great job

I'm not entered because his car(s) will not be ready (registered) by then and family commitments.

Wish I able to go though.

Hi Craig
I am entered car or no car I will be there for my 2nd nationals. I am really looking forward to the cruise down to Jindabyne with the club (passanger in Gregs car) and then what seems to be a very well organised event at a great location.

G'day all,

This is a great site and each and every member should be very proud of it - there is something for all users here.

Why aren't I going to the nationals - i have an fc wagon and it is registered and it is also under (re) construction and won't be ready in time.  And i simply refuse to turn up in a toyota corolla (wife's car)......

Graeme,

Turn up in the Corolla, hide it under some dense bushes, and grab a ride in someone elses FE or FC.

If you've got a car under construction I don't reckon you can afford to miss an event where such a depth of knowledge and results are available in the one place.

Turn up, with or without a car, it'll be worth the trip.

Cheers,

Craig,

I am not able to enter the Nationals for a number of reasons but am keen to cruise up from Canberra for a day (in the EJ of course) to check out some of the cars I read so much about and to put a few more faces to names. Is there a program available somewhere so I can work out what would be the best time?

G'day Craig,

yeah, good point.  there will be something for everybody that's for sure.  i may just have to get my finger out and get it ready in time.......

i rebuilt the car in "rough" form first to make sure that everything fits where it is supposed to and works as it was meant to and now have stripped the car back to a shell to do the detailing work.  it is just time and money now to put it all back together for the last time.

i won't make any promises, but will see what i can do.........

Dave & anybody else thinking of coming along for 1 day,
Saturday would be the best day for spectating. All the cars will be on show in the centre of Jindabyne, There is a carpark adjacent for all those non FE-FC's.
