Here are a series of pics from the National Archive site. Some I had not seen before. Great shots of cars in action on sandy roads. Also cool to see a ute on the proving ground.

There have been a lot of pics published in magazines etc. I will try to load some to my photoalbum when I get time.

Wow, looks a bit like the roads around my place  Grin

What a great job that would've been, thrashing the latest technology.  Wonder where the bonnet went off the old girl in the 6 th picture?

great stuff Alex

Hey Nige,

Maybe the bonnet got thrown to the tip, the same place the king pins are going after that jump  Tongue

Great photos Alex.

Cheers,

Craig

I have an old Motor magazine with that same car taken head on, on the cover, flying through the air.
Another thing I need to dig out.

Hi Guys.
I think you will find the car actually still has the bonnet. I have seen this shot before, in colour. It is a yellow car, with a black bonnet. I do not know why this is so, but it also has an FC bonnet emblem. Odd?

It is on the cover of a "Modern Motor" magazine from that era.

Good call Craig the Kingpins would have gone to god with that sort of treatment along with the front sub frame and door sills etc, after all that dust and mud mix that the cars were driven threw. I hope they were not sold on as low mileage demonstrators they would have dissolved into the Fibro Garage floor in 12 mths!!!
