Maybe an idea for a new section in the technical pages would be for place to post "hot tips"- for some of the not so well known tips that  you may want to share.
An example would be the tip of Kens' that hr door holder -opener springs fit fe/fc.
Or that hr to vp front wheel bearings are all the same size.
etc. etc.
What do you think?

From the two examples you've given, it sounds like what you're suggesting is more of a 'compatibility guide': listings of equivalent later model items that can be used in place of original equipment.

That's an interesting idea.  I'm not sure how I could physically implement such a thing, but I'll give it some thought.

I think an equivalent list is a fantastic idea

Just think, you could be chasing a FE FC part for ages

and then find out a later model is compatible and not

so rare

   hey great idea I'm a new oldie with two fc's in the shed and a licenced ek that belongs to the missus.
I'm from a family of mechanics but didn't follow in dads footsteps.(i was better at breaking em) I can fix and or repair most things but the biggest problem is knowing what fits what. If there was a compatibility list of some kind a lot of discarded or not considered parts would be used. and or exchanged.
I have found many a car dump and walked past parts that i found out later would have been the ducks guts for my project.
I'm new to this site but have found it invaluable so far.

Apart from parts compatability  I would include more general tips such as 'how toos', and Ret, Iwasn't looking to create more work for you so letting members post their own tips might be easier?

There are a number of Tech Info articles along these lines, at http://www.fefcholden.org.au/techinfo

Anyone who wants to add an article is free (and welcome) to do so.  Just email the text and any photos or diagrams to me, and I will look after any formatting etc that's required.

My only concern with simply throwing up another board for people to append these compatibility notes to is that it will quickly become very unwieldy and difficult to search through or use.  A series of tables listing the equivalencies would be better, but more work.  I'm thinking it should be feasible to design something that you guys can add information to, but presents the information in a formatted, organised and consistent manner.  I'm just seriously time-poor right now :-/

Is there anyone here with PHP or other CGI skills who'd be prepared to take this on?

There's an upside and downside to this.
I have thought many times about an FE-FC FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions). The idea itself is a good one, but with this board being available, all it would do is make people lazy (won't do a search) and less interactive (won't be asking questions of the board members).
