amber flashers

Help please .I have just become the very proud owner of a 59 fc ,the car is very original and I plan to keep it that way.the car is fitted with reverse lights and if I fit the amber flashers the reverse light is lost ,are the red flashers ok or are they unsafe and how is this modification viewed by the Fc clubs ,some comments please . Hi Steve,
If you don't want  to have the red flashers you just have to get some double filament globes and globe holders, wiring etc and run your flashers and reverse lights through the amber lenses.

Red indicators are OK legally, safety wise I guess there is a possibility that following drivers may get confused with a flashing red light since most of them weren't born when FC's were a common site on the road, so maybe it could be seen as slightly unsafe.
The reverse lights can be run through the indicators as Ace has suggested very easily.  Follow the wiring diagram from any of the later model Holdens from EJ onwards.
As far as the clubs are concerned, we accept stock and modified cars - no judgements.

When i first purchased my car back in 1987
( wow that was a long time ago )
i had so many near misses with people not seeing my
red indicators so with out any hesitation i installed
orange lenses

Both my FEs have flashing brake lights and I wouldn't change them for anything.  I discovered a long time ago that the secret to avoiding the near misses when driving either car is to use the indicator and perform the hand-signals as well.

Joe Doofus may not notice the red flashing light but he obviously thinks "hey that bloke's got his arm pointing out the window".  In any case, performing the hand signals is a lost art that adds to the whole driving-an-old-car experience.

Jeez I hope I haven't jinxed myself.  I've got to drive home in Faecal soon

 over here in New zealand I had a hell of a job convincing the rego people that the flashing stop lights were my indicators,
the inspector was so young they were a bit before his time
anyway got passed with them and won't change them for anything, ive had no problems with people seeing them, if i need to in future  may mount a high level brake light in middle of rear screen.

Hi Guys,
My Fc has the Red indicators, and I've NEVER had a near miss because of them, I'm with RET, I wouldn't change them for anyone. Admittedly I don't drive mine much now, but when I bought it in '95 I used it as an everyday car for a few years.

I also have the red indicators on my fe as ret said would not change them. Iwant to keep mine original as possable I never have had any peoblems with the red flasher
