Removing Knobs

Talking about the little choke and lights knobs here Kiwi, before ya say something crude.

How do I get those off without damaging them. The wiper knob has the little grub screw, but the others don't. Then........ supplementary question 1; what's the best way to remove the escutcheon plate without cracking it. Obviously I have found a nice dash with good knobs and a better escutcheon than Hilda's but I don't want to damage anything in the removal.

Supplementary question 2; nasco windscreen sun visors: How do you remove the little lock-nut system that goes into the roof and if I do remove them are they re-usable and if not can you get them?

G'day Emu,
The choke knob - you start removing by disconnecting the cable at the carby & undo the nut at the back of the dash panel. Then slide the whole lot out the front.
Headlight knob there is a little spring loaded button on the side of the switch mechanism behind the dash which you push in to release the knob and shaft (might need a jiggle) Then undo the holding nut the same as wiper switch. Good idea to disconnect the battery with this one as a power wire is connected straight from the battery to the switch which might earth out.
The sunvisor nuts are fitted in a keyhole type setup so you should be able to slide them to the bigger part of the hole for removal. Good idea to screw something into the nut in case it drops into the roof.

That is a great question

When I removed my dash for painting I faced the same problems.  Eventually I got out the manual and there it all was.  Girlfriend told me I should have used the manual from the start.
