;DIts arrived all the way from the bush. The one that was on EBay about a week ago. It seems to be all original with the only rust under the front of the bonnett. It has no dents under it or any where else. I dont know about the clip on one of the rear wheel studs I discovered when I removed the wheel. Also the brake shoes are the rivited type. I'll keep you all posted on my discoveries. please excuse the photo if it's not to good. Its my first one. Regards Leon

Thanks fellows for your replies I'm going to restore it to it's original condition. Here is a shot of that clip on the wheel stud and if you know why it's there can you tell me. Regards Leon.

It looks like a clip to stop the brake drum from falling off - wonder why? Maybe the previous owner had a bad experience where the wheel came off and he lost his brakes as well when the brake drum came off. Not that the car would go too far on three wheels anyway!!

Here is an excerpt from the FE master parts catalogue section 5.810 CLIP-Brake Drum Spring FE 7409454 12 per car
There were 3 per wheel on all early FE's at least according to the parts book. Coincidentally the first ones I ever saw were also on the 2 tone green FE that I just wrecked.
It appears to be the same colour as yours Levant Green and Bermuda Green

Hi Guys Could it be just a clip to hold the drum in place while you are changing a wheel ? I've seen them on other cars but can't remember what one ... Norm (scratcher of head trying to remember)

During my apprentiship in the early 80's a different type of clip was used. It was rectangle in shape, usually green or black in colour and fitted to FB right through to HR and LC/LJ Torana.

The clips were used to stop the drums from falling off during production. The front and rear ends were transported around the assembly line in a verticle position before finding their location on the car. After that they serve no purpose. The first brake inspection after the car was sold usually saw them transferred to the workshop rubbish bin. Leigh

Here's a pic of what Leigh is talking about. Can't see them adding a clip to do the job that wire or something between two studs, or a simple wing nut on 1 stud could achieve. Perhaps it was used as an anchor to apply pressure to the drum if it wouldn't move on removal? It may simply be a weight to balance the drum, similar to the way a wheel is balanced. Regards Alex

:)G Day fellows. Here is maybe something of intrest. I discovered under the left hand gaurd on the front support assembly the number 48. What it means I don't rightly know. Maybe one of you intelligent persons can help me on this one. Regards Leon.
