Trim Clips

Have to refit the trim to a FC Wagon.
Need new clips.
Where do I get clips from.
What do they look like.
And where do they go.
I took the trim of ages ago and several of the clips were bust or missing. There seems to be several types of clip.
Any info/pics would be great.

What you'll need to do is look up in an original Master Parts Catalogue the quantity and type of clip required for an FC/229, and cross-reference with these pages.

If you don't have access to a MPC, let me know and I will see what I can do for you.  Caveat: I'm very time-poor at the moment, hope you're not in a big hurry. :-/

I'm working on the list of clips you'll need, but have a club magazine to get out first.... Maybe next week sometime.

As far as where, depends where you are.  In Sydney there's American Autos or Spectrum Rubber

In Melbourne there's Rare Spares or Bill Tompson's.

Anywhere else? Sorry you'll have to ask a local :-/

Better late than never.  Here is that list of clips to suit FC Special Station Sedan.  It's organised by panel/area, listing:
part name, further description (where required), part number and quantity required.
Cross reference the part numbers with the document linked previously in this thread to see what each of they look like.

     Yeah it's me the pest again, Is there an chance of you having the list of clip's for a FE Specail Sedan. I am just starting to put the chrome back on and a few clips (most) are rusted or missing. Any help would be great When I got my car all the chrome strips and badges where removed and in the boot all hole's where welded up, So I hope I have drilled the hole's in the right place's. The young guy I got the car from wanted the clean look as he called it.

      That list also helps me as well & also while on the subject of the clips what is the best way to seal the clips to prevent water entering the doors via clip holes.

Hey Glenn,

Prolly better to let the water in than to let it sit behind the trim, as this will lead to pooling and rust.  The holes are a good drain.  CraigA has recommended a good inner door wax / anti corrosion somewhere which I plan on using. I POR15'd my door inners too to stop (slow) rust.

Im about to drill my clip holes... eek

      I read Craiga's recommendation of waxguard which
I am going to use as well but I will give the door inners a go with POR15 first.Did you strip the tar like stuff of the door inner first ?
Thats a good point about the water pooling behind the trim when i took of the trim off there was no rust behind them, if I seal the clips where's the water going to go.

I used Sikaflex to seal around all trim clips. This does prevent the water getting in to the car, and may create the pooling as suggested but its usually a combination and water and dust that causes rust.

So if you keep the car clean and flush behind the trim with hose pressure then all should be OK. Biggest problem is when you install the clip it has the potential to scratch off the paint around the trim clip hole. No easy fix for this one, except to put the Sikaflex directly on the clip retainer/thread so it slides in easily and seals at the same time. Makes doing up the nuts pretty messy though!

Use a windscreen sealer to stop water entry. It always stays soft/sticky.
When washing cars i found that using comressed air to blow the water out of various moulds and tim saves time on drying the car and not having water streaks after driving.
Also handy to blow water out of the doors through the drain holes.

Just compared the Rare Spare trim clips to the few originals .
Nothing like them also they all seem to be too small for the trim.
Any one used these?
