After a bad experience with the engineers, the Tasmans are going back on the shelf and the 14" steelies with baby moons shall go on. Any tricks or traps I should know about?

And a question for Gree, if you are listening, the fake lakes pipes that you had made. Where do they bolt up to? and what diameter pipe did you use?

the lake pipes i made bolt onto my 3/4 chassis - a made special mounting points. i also made up mounts and welded them onto the pipe slightly higher than the bottom so you can't see how they join when you look at it. the usual way is to buy clamps that go around the diameter of the pipe, but i didn't like the fact you could see it easily....

the pipes cost a bit to bend up, because i got it mandrel bent, i didn't want those nasty press bend indents... i had to draw up fully dimensioned plans for the guy to go from as well. (i wanted it to fit exactly)

as far as the wheels go.... if you are using HK wheels i had to do a lot of juggling to get everything to work... see this previous thread:

i noticed that someone on this thread said use HT wheels because they are offset more, but i used HK because my front wheels are tucked up way under the guard lip, so i really needed the extra inset

yours will look great in satin black. make sure you post some pictures....

i use 14" steelies on my ute and it sits real low. the fronts are 5" and the backs are 5 1?2" (monaro i think). i'm not sure what model they are off but they dont have the ugly vent holes that one model has, they are very similar to standard wheels.
my lakes pipes are "MOON" ones which we bought back with us and i use the standard moon brackets which wrap aroundthe pipe. mine sit a bit differently than simons as i have had concave sill panels rolled and the pipe sits in this concave bit and the front of the pipe exits from the rear of the front gaurd.there is some photos of it in my photo album here http://community.webshots.com/user/fcute
the 50 chev in the photos is the one that i just got for my son, we couldnt find a reasonably priced fc

glenn, what happened with the tasmans? i have a set that i am thinking of putting on the ute, but i have to get them narrowed first

Took 'em to the wheel place last September, lots of excuses and bullshit later the centres were off the rims in December. More excuses and bullshit later, the centres were apparently too small for the interference fit to the rim and needed a bit of welding to build up the tips of the spokes.
Well, after 5 months of this I had had enough and the balance tipped to the steelies and moon caps.
The tasman centres go back on the shelf, for now anyway.

I now have 2 of the 14" holden rims at a different wheel engineer for widening to 14x7, a couple of firestone 235/60 14 on hold at the local Bridgestone Dealer. Picked up the moon caps on Friday. Should have the rims back early next week, then all 4 go to the powder coater for a touch of mid-blue.

They are 10" odd, and I finally got them from Rod-Tech in Adelaide, $55 for a set of 4. Rod-Tech had trouble getting them for 6 months or so.

They are a loose fit on the wheel, but a small run of weld on one of the lugs should fix that.

Made in Taiwan or China, the finish on the chrome is not super shiny, but they suit the "rat-rod, rough around the edges" look that I am after.
