Hey Guys,

This is my Dad - Old Man Emu - with Old Mrs Emu, the Emu Sister as an Emuling and of course - the beautiful little baby Emu in his mother's arms. 1961.
It would be a great pic of the wagon if it wasn't for all those Emus in the way!!
Hey Craig A, do ya have a program that can remove people from car pics?

I'll post a few more soon.

Here's another with Grandad and Grandma Emu.

I think it was in Gunnedah, but I don't remember.

Actually I found out it was in Gunnedah and I'm in the picture behind my mothers maternity dress!
So this picture was really sometime in middle 1960.

Ckeck the classics in the background!

This one is in the backyard at our house in Sutherland in Sydney. Note the matching attire on the emulettes. Also note the well pulled-up pants and rolled up sleeve to reveal bulging bicep on Old Man Emu.

In the middle next to the pillows is the old Slide Projector. It went on every holiday and I still use it at family gatherings to display Emu History which was prolifically recorded by the senior Emu.

My sister used to sleep in the space at the back of the wagon on long trips. Pretty safe eh?

The FC Holden Wagon - the perfect car for the perfect Aussie family departing on a perfect holiday to the Gold Coast - Beautiful One Day, Perfect the Next!

Here's the car in 1964. On the way to the Gold Coast again. Taree I think?
Note another little Emu sibling. He turned out to be the Black Sheep of the family and drives a Ford.

Again, this shot   shows the versatility of the Holden Wagon. Breakfast in the back. Sleeping arrangements you ask? Dad made a wooden bench which layed across the drive shaft hump on the floor in front of the back seat. Emu slept there. Sister slept on the back seat and little bro over the back. Dad would drive through the night and hence breakfast in the back. Sometimes he would drive straight through. We would go to bed in Sydney and wake up at Broadbeach or Kirra. How exciting!!

Last One!

I hope I'm not boring you, but I'm having a blast. Its like Slide Show night all over again and I must say that I'm pretty proud of my technological ability for being able to post all these.

I think this was the last trip to the Goldie in the FC. Stayed in a Motel. I think the Old Emu was going soft on the driving through the night thing. I think it was Grafton? Need to check with the Old Emu while he can still remember the details.

The Old girl was starting to show wear. The car, not Mum! But now that I mention it.................

Back to the story. The Old Bloke skipped the entire "E" years and bought a new HD wagon, which, just quietly was a bit of a pig. He traded straight up to an HR wagon and the trips continued for another 5 years until one day we lobbed on the Gold Coast and never went home!

What a great move! Here the Emu sits today on the Beautiful Gold Coast. Owner of a FC Wagon not unlike the Old Emu's and lovin it!

Hey just noticed, how's the camera around my neck. What a tourist!!

That's you with the camera?  Jeez you've let yourself go a bit...

Great pics.  My Dad (RKT) also had a Blue/White FC Wagon when he and mum got married.  Maybe one day we'll come across some photos of it.  They went on their honeymoon in it, so I imagine there must be some somewhere...

cheers

Nice ones Emu.  Bet you had loads of fun going through the albums for FE/FC pics.  Always nice to see pics of these vehicles in their earlier days.

Love the stories.
Not too dissimilar to my own upbringing with Dads FC wagon. His was cream with a brown flash though. No colour pics of it anywhere, just 1 B&W. My Dad loved his super 8 movie camera. I will get around to converting some footage into stills one day. Our trips were a lot more local (Canberra, Bathurst etc)

Emu
I think the Kiwi has taken over 'star photo'and put a stop on your pictures. Roll Eyes
But really it usally means the server where your photo's are stored is having problems and does not want to talk to this site, it will more than likely fix itself.

Emu just had a look though the pic's and read the stories. Brings back some old memories for me, even though I was my family black sheep (Dad had a green and white zepher wagon) and I went after Holden.

Hey Sarge,

Rackin up those posts aren't ya!

I found another slide of the Old Emu's FC - Just gotta get a print and then scan and post.

Its of me in my Mum's arms about to come home from the Sutherland Hospital after my birth. The FC Wagon features beautifully!

I used to race a Zephyr - Mark 2 I think - at Surfers Paradise Speedway. In the "Bombers" What a blast!

A mate and I found it on a property. We towed it behind his HT Brougham until it started. Stripped it out and put in the roll cage etc and raced it for about 12 months until I totalled it. Actually everyone else totalled it, I just held on while I was bashed all over the track. We won a few races in the time.

The amazing thing about the old "Maori Mustang" was that we were on a tight budget, so we didn't even change the oil that was in it when it sat in the paddock! We raced it for 12 months and didn't use any oil and the day it was totalled it sat forlornly in the mid field ticking over like a sewing machine, with that same oil in her.

What a beauty. Pity it was a Ford!
