I used to have Datto 1600 4-speed in Faecal. They go reasonably hard, but chew through clutches like nobody's business. You need a Holden pressure plate and a Datsun clutch, and from memory the 180B clutch-plate is the only one that fits. You can imagine how much punishment they can take
I went through 5 clutches in 4 years, and wasn't
that hard on them
I changed from 2nd to 3rd one day on a club run, heading up Pennant Hills Road, and the car screetched to a stop, feeling like it had just folded in half with the back wheels touching the front ones! Turned out the main shaft just snapped. "Lucky those gears are in a box" and all that. It was hello NRMA and hello tow-truck. That's when I put the Powerglide in. Can't kill those things without an axe.
The benefit of the 1600 box is that it fits under the standard FE/FC transmission tunnel, but you still need to have a rear mount made up IIRC. There was a lot of silly buggers with the slave cylinder setup too.
Hope that helps,
