We are restoring an FC Station Sedan which has been in my wifes family since 1961.
Do you know where can we get the mixing formula for Cape Ivory 2158 and black 6258. Also what is the grey color of the dash.

Any asdistance would be greatly appreciated.

What is your location? Complete Auto Paints at Westall, Melbourne, have lots of old paint info, they could probably help, Cheers, Fraze.

John Rap from the NSW Club recently restored a wagon that is Cape Ivory, and provided this photo from the paint tin.

What no-one has really said here is that today's paints need different mixing codes to those previously used as there is no longer any lead in the paint and also use different base chemicals.  Further none of the local manufacturers have done any translations as the market is to small.  So the common method is to paint match with unfaded samples and keep their own records.  Eastern Auto Paints had a good library but it changed hands a few years ago so not sure how reliable that is.

Just asked the supplier to mix the colour and add some flattener to it.  Just sprayed it on the dash.  I think the smallest quantity I could buy was 1ltr

This link was some info I copied a while ago. It gives the ratio of flattening agent in the original paint formula for the dash.

FYI - dash top colour. As Ken posted, Cinder grey 253-9558 is the colour for FE FC. The 253 in the code denotes nitro-cellulose laquer. Later on, during the FB model run GMH changed the paint to Acrylic laquer. the paint code designation changed to 585. The paint colour name then changed to CLINKER grey and the code became 09963. I had some mixed to 09963 yesterday and to my untrained eye it looks the same as the Cinder grey on my FC. Incidentally when I asked for 09963 the guy at the paint shop looked it up on his computer and got the formula so I guess it is still a current code available to all. Cheers, Fraze
