I`ve been toying with the idea of fitting a torana diff  housing to the FC, The wheels i`m using are rubbing the inner guard .  I`ve welded the spring mounts on already.  Now Im wondering if its going to effect the handeling?  The front track is HR 54.7 inches . I think the torana is 51 inches. Any light on the subject would be appreciated

andy    i don't know much about the torana conversion but if the tyres need only a little more clearance ,spacers may be the easiest way to go.they are an alloy disc about 10mm thick ..they are drilled to fit on wheel studs &sandwich between wheel & brake drum .you may need longer studs..from trailer part supplier.spacers cost less than $20 pr.don't know if they are legal but the are available off the shelf

Spacers are not legal unless longer wheel studs are fitted, and there is a maximum thickness that can be fitted.
Some engineers will not accept them.
On the topic of fitting a Torana diff, have done this conversion several times on a variety of Holden Models.
If your tyres are rubbing on the inner guards why do you want to fit a narrower rear end???
The inner wheel well can be cut out and moved in till the vertical flange meets the chassis rail, then a filler strip is welded in to fill the gap.When finished it is hard to tell anything has been changed.
Did you set the pinion angle when the new saddle mounts were welded on?
Or are you talking about the inner lip on the wheel arch.

Whoops .  Yes I did mean the inner of the outer guard.  Sorry about the confusion.  I welded the saddle mounts at the same angle as the FC housing.

Torana diff is a good option as long as your welding skills are good, as it centralises the HR style wheel better in the well.  There are no handling issues at all as long as all is set up correctly.
Wheel spacers are illegal in Victoria but are best hidden by attaching to the back of the wheel with small bolts.  This way they remain unnoticed when the wheel is removed.
