Hi All

Have just fitted a EK electric motor to my FE sedan , using a headlight switch in the dash as per a earlier thread.

I have used the original FE arms under dash with the EK ends. Have put in as per the photos ( pivet &primary ) in the earlier thread but it still not working correctly.

the issues I still have are  1) motor does not return home when turned off ?
                                      2) the drivers arm on the windscreen goes off the screen about 4 inches ( starts in the correct place )

the passenger side is perfect , have tried swapping the inside arms over but get the same result on that side

1) The earth on the motor is not attached properly. Do you have a connection between the wiper motor to the body?
2) usually this is caused by slack linkages in the FE arms at the pivot end. If you can't get better arms then you can shorten the small drive arms by 2 mm to compensate.

so i have been trying lots of things to get the wipers to travel properly

long story short i finely manage to get hold of another bracket that fits to the wiper motor { once again that Phil  Grin }

as you can see the old one and new one are different , not much but turns out enough to cause the problem.

once fitted the divers side lifted up the windscreen about 1 1/2 inches , once put back into the correct home position both now work as they should  Grin

still no luck with the earth problem , have even earth straight to battery but still have the problem , but for now i can live with that

I will just run this by you to make sure you understand . The early holden wiper motor is constantly powered ,the switch turns [switches] the earth . So when earthed the motor runs .Inside the motor a brush strikes an earthing plate that is partially missing an d this is how the motor runs until it parks [runs off the plate] . If you have it wired correctly and it still fails to travel to park then I would look at the earth brush and plate . Good luck and I have spares if you have problems . Cheers Haydn

This is to put Haydn's words into pics. As you can see there is a spot on the gear wheel where the electrical circuit is broken the enable the wipers to park. I just happen to have a unit I'm trying to tidy up hence pics.

I've never seen a variation like that in wiper arms!
I think Haydn is quite correct, the 2 little contact arms you see in the pic can wear down with a lot of use or lack of lubrication. They are difficult to replace and probably easier to replace the whole top plate.
This involves unsoldering the two contact wires

Maybe easier to just replace the motor as a unit.

I have a complete working Preslite EK motor here (no base plate or arms) which you could have for $15 plus postage.

I recall a recent thread on the FB EK forum where someone else experienced the same issue with variation in the drive arm geometry. Have a browse.
