Hq would be too wide.
Try rodeo or hilux are a better starting point.
I havent seen anyone doing this recently.
There were a few years ago doing different conversions.
But never to be seen again.

Have a look at Harko's old thread... The nomad was on a Toyota crown frame.

I've wondered about narrowing and shortening a HQ chassis so that wheelbase and track are right. Joint would be done something similar to the way a HQ graft is put on a 57 Chev for example, but narrowed as well. You would need a narrowed diff, but that's nothing special. Narrowed Commodore rack for the front.

I've never seen or heard of this being attempted.  Maybe for good reason........

This has been discussed before using a 4x4 chassis, some of the results are not pretty, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, just watch that first step getting out

There is an FJ 1 Toner running around, I spoke to the owner who told me if you have vehicle with no floor its a good stating point, this bloke had a CD on how to do it, so it might be out there on the web somewhere

I'm curious as to what the benefits of rebodying an FE or FC over an existing chassis are?

If you are looking for rigidity, then a 3/4 chassis is very effective.

If you are trying to incorporate new suspension, then I think it would be "easier".. (sorry the same amount of work) and more elegant to fabricate new rails and floor to suit your suspension and drive line.

Cheers

If my memory serves me well, I remember reading a Street Machine article about Peter Fitzpatrick's first build was on a HQ Chassis to get around ACT rego laws.

Hey Ed
The reason is the engine capacity is based on the chassis and not the car - read HQ = big block
