Just after some advice. I have a FE/FC gear lever lock with no rubber covering over the bracket, as well as one from an (unknown) later model that has the rubber. It isn't perished, but it's a bit brittle.

Any tips on the best approach to get it off one and onto the other in one piece? The chances of finding another rubber seem pretty remote...

I've had success using the 'Rubber Magic' spray on some old rubber components I've had to reuse. Applied it a few times over a couple of days, WD40 to help release any bond between rubber & metal, some added warmth also helped.

G'day RET,

I had some success replacing the "tube" parts of the rubber using bicycle inner tubes. Slide a length of inner tube into the Staput tube, then invert (fold) the ends back over. Looks quite original. The "bracket" part of the rubber though is another story - have tried some fit and fiddle with inner tube, but can't get it looking right.

Thanks Harv. In my case the inner rubber (also from the donor) is in pretty good order, and slid straight in. But that's a good tip about using a bicycle inner tube that might help someone else reading this thread.
