Hi Guys
I'm going to weigh in here as the $160 cover that just sold on evilbay was mine and it was a nice tidy one.
Once you enter the ebay arena you have to allow for the fact the seller gets slugged 9.9% on his sale plus a further 10% is levied on the cost of postage. The one I sold I had also hydrablasted, vapourbalsted, wet blasted - whatever anyone wants to call it which gets off all the corrosion and dirt and grime to bring it back to fresh as cast appearance. I paid $115 ($90 plus post of $25) so for all my trouble I made $15 to $20 which also takes into account wrapping it and taking it to the PO !
The NASCO one shown for $500 is a fair price given their scarcity although the finish looks a bit shabby. I had a very flash polished NASCO on ebay for $450 (remember the 10% factor - I want $400 for it) and had plenty watchers but it didn't sell. Ditto a really rare front breather Kleinig at $330 wanting $300. Sooner of later buyers that know their shit will grab them knowing what they are so I am not too concerned.
It's all horses for courses - some cheaper entry level common stuff then gradually rising the rarer you go until you hit the twin breathers that an fetch close to a grand !
The ones I can remember listed in some sort of rarity, I have or have had are;
Chromed standard Holden steel - they are still noisy and can leak
The no name multi fins (7 or 8 fin)
Plain and polished non NASCO - nicknamed "Baldy"s
W.E.Y. 3 fin, 5 fin, 7 fin
Speco
Lanspeed
Lynx
Kleinig single breather
Lynx
Heavy cast fins
Ditto as above but with 'Special' in running writing cast on the top
Another variation with HOLDEN FB SPECIAL cast on it near the breather
NASCO plain - a fine cast finish mostly found as polished up as the std finish is pretty average. NASCO CSA cast at the rear but nearly always polished off on the polished ones (not seen easily at the rear without a mirror anyway)
A finned twin breather with an oval recess cast in it for a sticker long gone - that went to a speedway nut for $800 and he was stoked !
Kleinig twin breather (front and rear)
I'm sure there are many more out there too, and all are what buyers are willing to pay depending on condition, rarity, novelty appeal eg my FB SPECIAL one that will be on my ute for sure and a host of other reasons.
Hope I haven't confused anyone !
