Picture of assembled HR Rear Drum Brake

Can anyone post or email me a good picture of their HR rear drum brake, fully assembled with the outer drum off?
I am trying to sort out my son's HR and after looking at the diff in the FE realised that it has parts missing  (according to the HR Manual)

I'm guessing someone has left the self adjuster mechanism off.

I agree, when it was first introduced the self adjuster was removed by the average home mechanic because it was mistrusted and misunderstood.  It is not that essential if you keep up the maintenance on the brakes by adjusting them every 6 months.
The brakes should look similar to FC except for a floating adjuster at the bottom with a spring holding the 2 shoes to the adjuster and 2 springs at the top pivot rather than a single spring like FC. There is also a handbrake lever between the 2 shoes just below the cylinder.

Here are the brakes in my FE, they are obviously missing the plate/mech that provides the locking action on the adjustor.
We have that plate on the HR, but is it not locating correctly.

the brake shoes are the wrong way around  the long lining should be at the rear

The brakes shoes are correct, the long lining is at the rear.
All that is missing is the self adjuster, its not a locking mechanism.
When the brakes are activated on the car when it is going backwards, the adjuster moves slightly downwards.
When the movement is greater caused by wearing brake linings, the adjuster clicks the toothed wheel around 1 spot and the process repeats itself over time.
I wouldn't worry that they are not there. Checking the brake adjustment by hand each time you do a service should be fine.

Hi Guys

I am installing FE rear brakes onto my standard FJ diff housing, I had a handbrake cable made to FJ specs except with FE ends on it so that it can be used with the FE backing plates. The new cable allows the spring to go into the drum through the hole in the backing plate (as it does with the FJ backing plate), but then there is a cylindrical part on the cable which I can't work out how it is supposed to go, is meant to be inside the brake drum to retain the cable from slipping out of the drum? The FJ cable attached to the backing plate by using the bolt-on retainer, the FE backing plate does not have a bolt-on retainer, so how is the cable retained? The photo below shows the FE cable on top and the FJ cable below:

Aha but the FE does have a bolt on retainer. There are 2 holes just near the cable opening for the retainer.
The cylindrical part with the notch match up with a protrusion on the retainer.
