Long time owners of the same FE FC.

I just realised that I have owned my FC for 30 years as of the 7th of last month.
My son just turned thirty on Friday and I brought him home from the hospital in the back seat.
Since then I've kept the tradition going and my ol' girl has brought home 7 more bubs from the hospital.
Needless to say, my FC is part of the family and will always have a spot in the garage.
Here she is the day I brought her home.



Just wondering how many other stories are out there of members who have owned their car for a long time. I am aware of a few who bought their FE/FC new. It would be great to share the stories.

Now you mention it , I've had my old van for almost 30 years. I had plenty of FE and FC's before ,during and since. Wagons utes and sedans and worked to restore many hundreds more [ long story ] but would never part with this old girl as she has been the most honest. By that I mean I am the second owner and I bought it off a friends grand father so I know her life story and therefore no nasty surprises

Congrats guys

I've had my sedan for 30 years - bought it off my dad's uncle (original owner) early October 1983. He couldn't drive anymore and just wanted it to go to someone who would look after it - I reckon I might have just met his criteria. 

I originally bought the van in December 1984 - reluctantly separated from it in 1990 only to be reunited with it in August 2007.

So, while there was a gap with the van, technically I can say I still have the first two cars I ever owned.

My FE came to me in 1979, but had been in the family since at least '59, as the photo below proves.



I have posted it before, but not for a long time, so apologies to those who have been offended by the size of my ears already.  Yep - that's me and my ears and my FE in November '59 with what was then my grandfather's car behind me.

This is awesome . I love reading these stories of how these old vehicles have shaped our lives. Around 20 years ago I received a call from a friend who was living down near the NSW , QLD border caretaking on an old dairy farm that was about to be subdivided . He needed mechanical help with a Morris Mini he had been given as payment for repairs to the owners Bedford truck. After a few hours and a few ales we were finished . He asked "what do I owe you ?" I replied " Nothing ". He said he had an old EK ute in the dump down the back that I could have and that it was quite rusty. Long story short .I told him to pour diesel down the plug holes and after a few days he can drag it out of the dump, which he did and rang me very excited to tell me the engine turns over. The next day I arrived with fuel, water, carby dizzy, brake fluid, battery and 4 wheels . We tow started the ute with the farm tractor, he drove it and I followed it in my FE about 20 kms to my then girlfriends[ now wifes ] place only having to stop once to use an old tyre pump to clear the fuel line on the side of the road . We parked it under an old fig tree on the girlfriends family farm and then started to clean the rubbish, mostly fertilizer and bags from the well only to find that there was not only next to no floor in the back but absolutely no top in the fuel tank . Talk about fuel additives .

Bought my 2 tone blue fc sedan wen i was 15 in 1983..,, still got her 30 years later .. along with several others ..

I bought mine in 1987 at 19 years of age
Tomorrow im 46 so sheesh thats 27 years ive had her
She will stay in the family and one day go to my daughter
It's been on the road since 1995 after a 6 year build with only 10,000 miles on the dial
Hmmm got to take her out more often

Alex, thats amazing bringing 7 babies home in the same car. Hopefully a few got made there too 

I love the fact that MalFE has had his since new.

I've had mine since March 1985, purchased from a car yard on Parramatta Road Sydney.

I was just over 20 at the time. Now just about to turn 49.
Hard to believe I've had it for that long. It just sort of sits in the garage now but I would never sell it.

My eldest daughter is now 17 and drove it a few months back. Makes me feel like a pensioner :-)

Don't knock the pensioners, if it wasn't for them, a lot of you guys wouldn't be here today talking about the 29 or 30 odd years you've had your FE or FC. I've only had my sedan for about 12 years and it's a little sick these days.

Have owned my FC since 1987.
Purchased it for $200, put a battery in it and drove it 200m down the street.
I lost my left leg in a MV accident in 1983 and rebuilding my FC was a great motivator to get on with life.
Originally two tone green but had two major rebuilds and numerous mods over those 25 years I've had it.
Both my kids (son 24, daughter 22) and my wife have driven it in its current state and absolutely love it.

I to will never see it sold in my lifetime.

Craig , I know what you mean . When I became disabled in 2001 I used my redundancy to pay the bills and the mortgage and then set about becoming chronically depressed, until a friend of some 40 years asked for my help with his early holden restoration business. I to have no intention of ever being without my old holden. cheers

I bought My FC in 1979 when 19yo. It was owned from new by the head teacher of motor trades at Sydney Tech and sold to a female school teacher who I bought it from. I was patient and waited until I found a straight, rust free low mileage car before I coughed up my $650. A fortune in those days.

It was a marvellous time to restore a Holden. Dealers had masses of new old stock and every third back yard had an old Holden laying in it. I got my hands on as much new stuff as I could then one day Rare Spares came along and cleaned out the dealers so that was the end of that.

I fully restored the car to original condition with all the rubber and plastic stuff brand new. I didn't take long to realise that it was quite simply no fun to drive so I took out all the running gear and fitted HR front HP red motor trick suspension good wheels and tires and all that stuff. It transformed it into a delight to drive. Still is.

Not long after it was finished I went to sea and it sat in my parents shed. I moved to SA where it still languishes in the shed. I promised myself one day when I have less distractions I will dismantle it and freshen it up and get it exactly how I wanted it all those years ago. That day will be very soon as I have just finished a no expenses spared workshop that will be fully equipped just for this car. I intent to make this a very enjoyable restoration.

As far as sentimental value goes this car has a lot of memories. Its been used as a wedding car a few times and I had my first serious encounter, For want of a better word in this car. A French girl I remember, But I digress.
