strange colour codes

I need some help, we have just bought a FE Utility for resto. However I can't seem to find out about the colour. The car is a blue grey colour, but underneath is an Orange.
Trim # is S5-560
PAINT # IS 253-5162
BODY ID # FE-2106S2-3529-A
So far I have worked out that 253 is the type of paint. 21062 means that it is a ute. 3529 it is 3,529th build from Adelaide. But the paint code & trim don't seem to exist.
Is there any advice, as to where I need to look

You have what appears to be a quite rare vehicle there. Trim code S5 refers to "Aviation Surface Orange", a colour that was used for special order commonwealth vehicles used at airports etc. That seems to tally with what you've found under the blue top-coat.

It does appear on the Paint codes page, at the bottom right corner.

Oh, one other thing. FE-2106 means it's a ute. The S2 code is another "Special Order" descriptor. Ken (our resident guru on these matters) might be able to shed more light on its meaning.

Thanks Ret, well it does at least explain the orange colour. How were they used at the airport? Our plan is to restore it to original, so I guess we need to paint it orange, do you have any idea on what the trim was?

The trim colour is Cordon Brown PVC - that is the standard ute material and pattern but in a dark Brown colour. Check some old Nationals photos of my army sedan - same interior colour and pattern (maybe Alex can post - my photobucket is no longer working)

Very very very very rare colour - in fact with over 3000 cars recorded yours is the first I have come across. The car was built by GMH for the Dept of Civil Aviation - possibly used for transporting airport equipment around the airport - but the colour was bright so that they were clearly visible. Another Civil Aviation car was found a few years ago and reported on this forum. It was a FE standard wagon however painted in Golden Yellow instead of Surface Orange.
The S2 code refers to special additions (or deletions) which had to happen on the production line.
Check your car for things like an anti-theft spring in the fuel tank neck or the remains of a chain which used to hold the fuel cap to the body.
S5 code refers to the special order exterior paint colour.

Well thanks heaps Ken! It has started to make sense now, I couldn't work out what the orange paint was, I thought it may have been some kind of undercoat. It also has a bracket on the front bumper bar, perhaps that could have been to hold a commonwealth insignia. Also could you tell me where I start to look for an engine #?

engine number is just in front of the dissy on a flat plate. Would also like the chassis number which should be on the drivers side skirt about half way along. Would start with 7 or 8

I would be interested to know what is on the roof. I have seen pics of airport utes and trucks with large checks on the roof.

A fellow came to work the other week from melbourne to service our waterjets.
He has a collection of FC,s he has inherited and in that collection is a windowless panel van ex army
 he said he was always told its ultra rare has some moulding under the windscreen.
Im trying to get a photo out of him to shed some more light on what he means.
He said he only ever took it to one show after he inherited it and every one crawled over it.
Hasnt seen light in a lot of years.

He hopes to have it on the road next year , has done a lot so far replacing floors and rear sections, remainder of the body is pretty good.
Will run stock wheels when done.

Same, same!
First one is an FE with Cordon Brown interior, second one is an FC with Mesa Tan interior.
Both are Aviation Surface Orange
The plate details are wrong though for the FC though. The body number should be similar to the FE one. It probably should say FC 2106S2 or similar
