Hi there ,
does anybody have a picture of what the flexible coupling looks like,that is supposed to be fitted between the copper line and the wilsonia gauge oil fitting

Mine has a flexible autometer style one.

Were they copper standard ?

I purchased the gauge and it came with a copper line only -The instructions say that there is a flexable coupling supplied with the gauge.But alas this is missing in the box

Id just buy the autometer flexible line kit comes with the brass olives and the white flexible tubing . $30 from memory got a kit at autobarn the other week.

I have known of plastic lines that have come off the fittings after a while  so I prefer to fit the copper line

its looks the same as the fuel line - about half as long - but with the oil fitting threads of course. in the past i have located them on old Smiths guages as they use the same flexible line.

My local parts joint had a box full of brass olive fittings with the gas looking thread .
He also had copper line in stock as i was remote feeding the variable cam timing on a rb30 with a twin cam head.

I was feeding from the original oil sender so he had the T piece in  stock as well.
If you cant get one MSG me i can grab one and post it.

Sorry for hijacking this thread.  I have a Wilsonia gauge I going to fit to my FC.  I do not have any oil line with it.  What is the best oil line to use?  I know the original was copper but I had thought about using some of the modern plastic with crimped fittings.  I know the latter is not original but would not need the flexible part as above.  Any thoughts as above.  If I go original I will need the flexible bit as well.

There are and will be many opinions here.
It really depends on your attitude to your car, some people have different expectations when doing up their car, depending on time, money, resale, easiest solution, what others think???

1. The absolute restorer - I've been here. Every part must be 100% correct, no questions.
To do this you haunt swap meets and ebay to continue looking for NOS components or good used original parts.

2. Close enough is good enough. If it looks Ok then it will be fine. A non genuine flexible section can be added to the end of the copper pipe easily enough and it will work better than original. The car still looks fundamentally correct with the copper line going down the firewall and below the top of the steering box to where the join is made pretty much out of sight.

3. I'm not really concerned about originality.  My last FE was like this. The easiest and cheapest way is to install an entire plastic line from guage to engine. It works fine and makes dash removal easy. (Those who have copper oil lines on Wilsonias know what I mean). It does not have to have crimped fittings, the best way is to use the slide on olive which compresses when you tighten the nut. Be aware that the Wilsonia has a square end fitting rather than a Vee fitting so you do have to source the correct end for the plastic line. Once again, I have in the past found an original piece of pipe (you can be lucky and find a cut off bit of copper line on an old guage at a swap meet) Join the plastic line to the copper line and you're away.

Thanks Ken for your insight into the various options and explanations.  I'll digest them and consider what will be the best in my position.. The gauge I have has the original coupling on the back of it, complete with washer as well as about 3/4" of original copper tubing. Long long time ago on an FC I had there was a Wilsonia gauge fitted with the copper tubing and getting to the rear of the dash was not the nicest job.

Hi,
I believe Roger from this Ebay store has access to an original oil line fitting kit for the Wilsonia gauge and is looking at reproducing it:

The kit certainly had a flexible section about 10" long which looked like brake hose.
