Gday Guys,
Blue slip on Thursday,Registered yesterday !
Great moment for Dad and I yesterday, took the car for its first "legal" drive !
Car is excellent, quiet as a church mouse, rides smooth and all in all a real delight !
A few little bugs to work out,but really happy with the car and our accomplishment.
One question though,The temperature light..............
The temperature sender appears to be faulty, the light came on 5-10 mins into my drive home from work yesterday
and stayed on for the duration.
I pulled over three different times to check the cooling system, there was no steam,no overflow and no bubbling at all
but the light stayed on.
This really robbed me of the joy of driving the car because all i was doing was watching the traffic and the temperature gauge,
by the time i got home i was distressed and felt pretty ordinary.
I pulled the sender unit out and found it to be clean as a whistle.
The head has been done as you know, the block has been water blasted and completely cleaned out of any debris, new thermostat,re cored radiator
new hoses etc etc.
I flushed the radiator again this morning and it appears clean.i started up the car to warm it up while i opened the gate and when i got into the car the light was on again after around 4
minutes of warming up with choke half on.
Dad seems to think it is a faulty sender switch and after my investigation i concur, the trouble is i cant seem to find anywhere to buy one.
There seems to be an inordinate amount oil pressure switches on E bay and alike but no temperature senders ?
Any thoughts would be appreciated !

have a look at the side of the switch - if you have a 217F switch then this is the problem. You must have a 226F switch - part number 7413228 with the original bullet head or 7406993 with spade fitting

Well done, you and your dad must be so proud to have the car back on the road. To be able to share that moment together knowing how much it means to both of you. Good luck and enjoy the drives for as long as you can, hopefully we can meet up on the road somewhere when I get mine running.
Best wishes, Jim

Maybe fitting a guage would be a better way to know your temp, and no stress! Grin

Thanks a lot guys !

Ken, the sender is 226F,Rare spares dont have them and i haven't been able to track one down, should i try to source
a nos unit or get a compatible after market unit as collecta suggested ?

Also i have developed a hole in the muffler, its too big to patch, should i just take it to a muffler shop or a specialist in Holden exhausts or can i buy the right unit from somewhere and just do it myself?

I will post some pictures soon, I was going to Eastern creek tomorrow to catch up with everyone but Dad isn't up to it,we went to the all Holden day last week but only stayed for 30 mins or so
because Dad was too tired.

Anyway, thank you to all, much appreciated !

Congratulations on getting the FC back on the road, a good job well done.

Our "friend" on ebay does have the correct senders for sale. I have know idea if this is a good price or not and have never dealt with him.

Ebay Item #190791726677

Rich,

Well done.

You can troubleshoot the sender by putting it in a saucepan of water and bringing it up to the boil - connect a multimeter between the body of the sender and the terminal.  If the sender is faulty the contacts will close (low resistance) before the water boils.

The workshop manual suggests using a bath of oil and a thermometer, which allows you to go above 212 degrees F.

Rich,

Your car likes very much like my first FC, does your FC have black & red interior as mine did.

You have a very nice ride.

It was great to catch up on Sunday at Eastern Creek.

Cheers
