Getting tired of tuning the tripples and was looking at blanking the two outer ones.
Do you have to disconect the linkages to the outer ones as well as putting blanks in?

Yes, otherwise they will continue to have fuel pumped into the throat of the carby. Either that or blank off the fuel supply.

So if disconect fuel supply to the outside carbs and blank the two carbs at the manifold that should do the trick?

If you want a hand tuning them, I'm happy to help. Just need a desciption of what you've got and the dramas your facing. The info here may help too:

If your heart is still set on blanking the two outer carbs off, you will need to disconnect the fuel supply as Ken suggested. Otherwise it will fill the bowls, even if blanked off on the air side. The accelerator pumps would also try and squirt fuel into the blanked off throats.

If you blank off the carbs, no air can get in. If you also have the fuel disconnected, then the linkage does nothing and you could theoretically leave it in place. Same for the choke.

Double check where your vacuum advance is plumbed to - if it is plumbed to a blanked off carb, the advance may not work too well.

Sounds like you may be making the mistake of "overtuning" the triples, have a read through Harv's Stromerg guide and after ensuring the jets are the right ones and venturi sleeves fitted have another go at tuning them Wink

Honestly Dazza once they are setup and tuned they don't crave unwanted attention (tinkering) Personally I don't like triples that are setup as non functional dressup gear on a motor, but hey thats just me.

I think i will give it a go.
I have a rail feeding the three carbs,will take that out and plumb fuel line direct to middle carb and blank off two outside ones at the manifold vacuum is on middle carb so shouldnt be a problem.

Yeh i am the same mick,but i am only home a few days a month and i just want to have a hassle free drive over xmas and then i will set them back up and have a good read of Harvs info.

Daz,

One final word of caution.

When you go back to a single carb, you need to be careful that you do not starve the motor for fuel. The original main metering jets are 51's (0.051"), and are stamped on the jet body. If you have tuned the triple carb jets down (for example down to 46's or 45's), switching to a single carb will mean that the remaining carb runs very, very lean. There is a risk that lean out leads to you melting plug electrodes, or even worse piston crowns under cruise conditions. Make sure that the single carb remaining has at least 51 jets.

Same deal if you have played with power bypass valves - the single remaining carb needs to have a #65 jet or richer (#63, #61 etc).

You will probably need to richen up the idle on the remaining carb (screw out the idle needle valve to at least 1 turn out).
