Front Quarter Vent Rear Rubber

What is the best method to attach rear rubber of the front 1/4 vent to the divider?  At present I am not real happy with the operation of the 1/4 vent window. I used rubber glue to hold the rubber in and while it does not fall out I am finding it sits proud on the outer side and tends to catch on the glass when you try to shut the vent.  The rubber has recess a few mill deep on its rear.  The original rubber was held onto the divider with a thin metal strip which was clipped into the divider channel with the rubber presumably glued onto this strip.  The old metal strips were too rusty to use.

My thoughts are to super glue some thin aluminum strips of the correct thickness onto the divider channel then super glue the rubber onto the aluminum and hopefully prevent the rubber strip from rolling over as the vent window is shut.  This added strip cannot be a continuous due to  the raised sections where the original metal strip went through the channel.  Any thoughts/methods would be appreciated.

Use the correct loctite adhesive to stop the rubber coming away. I usually glue in place then shut the window and let it set

Thanks Ken.  Do you put a spacer behind the rubber or do you glue it directly to the channel?

Glued straight to the channel - I believe the repro is a little thicker than the original which makes up for the metal backing
