deadlines get you motivated right?
well i been motivated all month workin every night after 10 hour days/all weekends any spare moment
you know how it is
im gonna make it ,im gonna make it,who needs sleep,I AM GOING TO MAKE IT
ya keep tellin yaself......
we've all been there before..........
well,
i had a deadline to get my car regoed to go to chopped rod and custom show in newstead in vic
next thursday
went there last year camping dirt drag racing for 3 days best time ever
told everyone im bringin my fc next year..............
after a 2 year rebuild(for the second time)
i thought 2 months ago i'll make it easy
just thought i'd have to upgrade a few little things for the 2000km round trip
everyone saying ya should drive around for a while before doin a big trek in a new build
i thought it would be cool just to get in and hope for the best,
i've done everything myself so if i broke down it would teach me a lesson for not buildin it right
anyway.........
in the last month i have had to change motor back to 186 as the 202 my engineer said would be ok wasnt
was hoping to get a blue slip last week, was tidying engine bay up and thought id paint some stuff on the dizzy dropped it and smashed the cog............great saturday arvo
ok cant make the blue slip monday
too busy at work to take any time off through the week
so thinkin ive only got next saturday(today) to get this regoed
remember...........I AM GOING TO MAKE IT
oh forgot to mention got metal in my cornea(middle of my eye) and cant see out of one eye and been at eye hospital everyday the last week
anyway booked in hoping i could get off early friday ,but found a good oil leak thursday night
so bumped the inspection for saturday 9 am when they or noone else i could find do blueys on sat
 cool no probs
(now comes the dumbest thing i've ever done)
worrying its a rear main leak as holden reds do
i rip off the cover plate on the gearbox to have a look
not really any oil there
so i start car to see if i can see any leaks...........
nope no rearmain leak.....oh theres a bit of oil there on the sump
i'll wipe that off  .........the wind off the flywheel blows the rag in and manages to stop the motor
think to myself thats the dumbest thing i've ever done!
actually screaming at myself cause the leak was so minimal i should not have touched anything,
as my friend kept saying.....i might start listening to him from now on......
so i'll just turn the motor backwards and get it out right?
wrong.
the rag was so wedged in i had to jimmy bar the teeth of the flywheel one at a time.
in the process i needed a packer using a bit of 20 mm plate which manages to slip and smash me just above my good eye
ripping my forehead open...........bleeding everywhere.............
remember.........I AM GOING TO MAKE IT
so an hour or so later free the engine, cover plate back on etc
everythings fine little test drive up and down the street
adjust new clutch etc wow i think.............im gonna make it................
so put the car in the garage (about 1 am by now)
thought id start it and stop it a few times just to make sure it will do it in the morning .........
stops. starts fine , about 3 times then...........
 WHAT NOTHING!
starter motor has bloody burnt out and dont have a spare...............................

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO I DIDNT MAKE IT................................

oh the joys of car buildin .....................

had to post this i thought it was funny
you gotta laugh or ya gonna cry hey.......

would love to hear everyone elses failed deadline stories too

i am not normally a quitter,
but the fc has been tellin me it doesn't wanna go there..........
i am starting to listen...............
just tried to get the starter out thinkin maybe i could get another one today and try to still make it and i have to drop the extractors and everything to get it out.
i just cracked the shits and came home

Your right Waynos,
I think that the gods have spoken. At least your going down in Val and not a f*$d, that would be really bad Cheesy Cheesy
Can you see at all now? Was the metal in the cornea from the rebuild???

Sorry to hear of your dramas.
I had a cut cornea a few years back....bloody hurts, so I feel your pain.
Probably a good thing in the end that your not driving your FC 2000ks with only 1 good eye. You might have run up the bum of your mates Val.
Have a good trip anyway.

Thats a pretty good story i have had a fair few stupid days myself car related and not car related.
my best was adjusting our house pump pressure switch thought they were low voltage apparentlly not no earth leakage fell over it and it kept hitting me came out thru my knees crawled up to the house covered in urine.
another drunk one night decided to swallow a Beroca whole non dissolved got lodged in my throat so i quicklly drank some water frothed red shit for 15 minutes thought i was going to die.
the worst car related one was helping a mate work on a mx5 on a hoist at full height he bumped the car fell off the hoist landed nose down jammed sideways in the hoist had to get a fork to move it did a fair bit of damage only just missed me and a mate.

It was a sign you know.

pain in th rear when these sorts of things happen, you get all geed up then big let down when it goes wrong. This is why I didn't give myself a real deadline on my rebuild, while it is a bit of a pain when I don't get any time to work on her, there is no let down. So long as I finish the car of I will be happy and proud that I have actually finished it myself and look forward to driving her again.
Best wishes Jim

JB, I can only wonder about just what sort of a person would interpret it that way...  Roll Eyes Wink Cheesy

Waynos will apparently have firewood; the Leader of the Opposition and I wont...

Cool might be cool; COLD isn't!! (except for beer, which we will have  Smiley)

Anyhow, it sounds like a great weekend, should be plenty of good music etc to keep us warm...
