Just wandering if anyone could please recommend a Perth/WA based business that can shorten commodore diff housings and axles? I know the chances are slim.... but if there is someone in the Bunbury/Southwest region.. that would be even better logistically. Thanks in advance

just shorten one side and use the short axle out of another one. cant help u with that area

Thank you for the speedy reply. Its pretty cool that the mod need only be done on one side. Do you know of anyone i could call on setting the housing up to run the FC's suspension? If its anyway possible to describe over the phone/fax/internet... Thanks again

its a bit of a prick if u wanna run all original wheels compared to aftermarket. cos it will depend of offset. its all about measuring where the spring saddled will end up from the middle of the diff to where they would normally go in a standard one. Me and my fabricator mate are doing one now and have nearly finished. But Ill ask him if u can ring him and ill post some pics if i get time to take some next week but im sure if you search from the home page in the search bar "commodore diff" then u will find pics. most people recommend buying the wheels first then doing diff to suit. The FC suspension is prehistoric so its an easy setup. u probably need to be wary of heights when finished, the ride height and housing thicknesses will come into play too.

Thank you fe350chev. will do. Cheers for the quick response and information. Greatly appreciated. I might make the build around a set of commodore steel wheels. At this stage... steel rims will be a permanent thing.

Im doing the whole buy two diffs thing and take the shorter axle as per my comment on the Steer column...... Wreckers price for diff and fuel tank 300 bucks, whole VS 400 and sold 600 in parts already!!!
found a set of 15inch B45 simmons with white wall tyres in commodore pattern for my VT stud pattern... gunna look hot

Hahahaha that's awesome. I have done the exact thing. Bought a VS for $600 and will part off the remainder when I'm done with it. Its good to have sense when you don't want to use the dollars

Hijack the thread a little here..... the VS was for those parts only. I had a T boned VT for 700 and sold 1000 in parts, somehow still have engine, box and painstakingly, the complete loom.

That's where I got my 2... I got the one for the van 10 years ago for $4100, so $ 700 for a VT today sounds right.

Another great place to land a donor is dealerships. They hide their bunky trade ins out the back usually. Worth have a wonder around and getting chummy with the salesman who needs to make quota

i found mine on Gumtree, it doesn't get the numbers like evilbay does and you can get a better deal, oddly the people I have found are friendlier. Warning, if you advertise on Gumtree you'll be sms'd by international scammers immediately.
Having said that I scored an LSD from VS ute for a hundred and a set of extractors Pacemaker for ummm..... (not telling)

Just found a guy in Busselton who does turn key conversions on FC's etc and I'm told he is also an engineer specialising in driveline and steering. I had a brief chat with him today and for a thousand dollars he can convert your commo diff to be correctly offset and in line with transmission/tunnel. New brakes, bearings, calipers and rotors. The mounting points for the diff to leaf springs can be altered to give the rear a lower stance. PM for contact details Jason

you got it in one. Just talking to him on the phone.... I got the impression he is the full bottle on all things technical and a stickler for perfection. Cant wait to meet him and check out the workshop- hard to believe the man is a 30 minute scenic drive from my doorstep.

Phil is a local legend here
He runs his own engineering firm, and has some of the most advanced machinery around
He also had one of the best car collections around as well
Any work that Phil or his boys do is top notch every time
I have seen his own EK that he just put a v8 in, and dropped in the commodore diff, cal tracks etc, and it is smicko
