Fuse Boxes

Is it better to have an engine bay fuse box along with the under dash unit. I am having aircon, electric windows, all of the fruit etc.

Depends if you want a clean engine bay .
Hinge a panel under the dash and fit all the relays.
Cleaner is better i reckon in an engine bay.

Wayne, if you are using late model running gear, you may need to put the fuses in the engine bay as all the extra wires may be to much for under the dash. Although as hoon said, a clean & tidy engine bay always looks great. There is also another solution to contemplate, run all the wires along the trans tunnel and mount everything behind the seats. A customer of mine did a full running gear swap from a vx c/dore ute into a hq ute and did this , it came out a treat and left the engine bay nice and clean.

Just mud and water and crap and they would have to go thru an inner guard or something might look dodgy..




I ran my computer and all relays mounted on an alloy plate under the drivers seat on mine and will do it again i had it in plastic corro thru the gearbox tunnel to hide it.

I used a Pat Gardner engine relay harness so I have only 6 relays and fuses in the engine bay and only 6 wires come through the fire wall for that part of it, if I had to run all of the engine harness wires that connect it would be a big job extending them all. I suppose it would be easier to extend the plug side of the harness if you really wanted to put the relays and fuses in the cabin.
The engine harness is big enough as it is and like a lot of us I used the original large grommet and ran it through the passenger side of the fire wall to my computor that I hid on the door side of the glove box.
The original head light/blinker wiring I have run along the outside underneath of the inner guards to keep the wiring in the engine bay as clean as I can I think unless you want to rewire the whole loom it is pretty hard to hide all wiring I am just trying to keep it to the minimum.

Plenty of room under the tray at the back... Thats where all mine is.

Just the engine loom on the passenger side and the abs with headlights on the drivers side.

The engine bay is just full of other stuff.

I was GIVEN a pat gardner wiring loom after I removed complete loom from the VT and now don't know what I want to do

Yes mate, all of the wiring adapted to suit what I had left in the ute, ie no rear doors, bootlid etc.

Then its just about lengthening and shortening to fit, one wire at a time.

Your not alone fellas. I guess thats what we have to do to run an efficent efi system and larger motor. Worth it in the end and after it is all going we will all forget the pain we went through and just enjoy our piece of happiness.

Instead of buying a patch harness for the RB26 i bought a full loom with the haltech 2000 series  to hide the wiring so i have to crimp and fit all injector and  sensor clips.

At least im not running ABS ect .
